Electronic Arts has unveiled details surrounding the progression and pursuit tech features in their upcoming Need for Speed Rivals
for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Essentially players will be able to progress in the career mode as either a Racer or Cop, with different storylines, gameplay mechanics, cars and technology depending on which side you take.
The following trailer shows both the Racer and the Cop in action. The Racer will be attempting various speed related objectives, such as escaping a pursuit or drifting a particular distance, while the Cop will be trying to do actions such as ramming the Racers off the road (effectively "busting" them). Persistent completion of objectives will grant access to improved cars and technology. In addition, players will be able to make use of "Pursuit Tech"; these include special gadgets and projectiles that can give you an edge during your pursuits.
EA has also kindly published some new screenshots of the upcoming game. As you can see in the top image, there is a visible electrical "spark" between the Cop and the Racer, no doubt one of the new pursuit techs in action:Need for Speed: Rivals
will be releasing on Xbox 360 on November 19th for North America and November 21st for Europe. While there is no current release date for the Xbox One version, we do know it will be a launch title alongside the new console, so it is expected to arrive this November as well.
