TA Gaming Stats - Sept 30th to Oct 6th 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period September 30th to October 6th 2013.

After the buzz of the last couple of months of releases has now settled down to a quiet hum, things have got a little quiet around stats recently. It's just as well really, as it gives me and my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, the much needed mental, physical and emotional preparation time needed for the upcoming blockbuster release schedule. In order to put me in the right state of mind and body, I attempted some acupressure techniques. This basically entailed me lying on a bed of nails, but that didn't seem very comfortable, so in an effort to maximise on relaxation space efficiency, I decided to lie on a bed of Statisticles who were lying on a bed of nails. It was very comfy and relaxing, apart from the annoying yelping.

Games Started
23,471 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 33,371 games between them (1,798 different games).

Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360) sees a drop from over 6,000 to nearly 4,000 starters this week, but still sits comfortably in first place seeing as the release schedule has otherwise seen a bit of a lull recently. Expect things to kick up a little in a few weeks when the busy Fall release schedule officially hits.

After FIFA 14 (Xbox 360) was unleashed last week, sports season continues with a double bill of Basketball and Formula One as NBA 2K14 (Xbox 360) and F1 2013 take their places on the table in third and fifth. Although these are pretty good positions, neither manages to break 1,000 starters, with F1 only managing to get a paltry 350, a number that on some weeks might not even see it make an appearance. The popular footie franchise instalment manages to retain its second place position, with numbers over 1,300.

This month's free "Games with Gold" title, role-playing action puzzler Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, storms onto the top of the Arcade table this week with almost 3,500 starters. It's worth noting that this is considerably better than the last freebie did, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, which only managed less than 1,500 starters in its first week of freeness. Might and Magic's matching malarchy manages to just beat out last week's new release, the free-to-play RPG Ascend: Hand of Kul, which takes 3,000 starters in second; a 2,000 dip from last week.

After weeks of focus on Games on Demand and DLC, Deal of the Week this week refocused on XBLA titles. Two of the five discounted titles appear on the charts, with popular build-em-up Terraria (Xbox 360) in fourth and dirt cheap and super easy Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition in tenth.

Despite the first episode becoming free, only 140 players started The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) in ninth. I guess everyone and his Ewok has got the game already.

It's worth noting that this week's new release, run and gun PC port A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda EX, is nowhere to be seen. And this despite all the Statisticles picking it up. They do love a good run and gun. By which I mean running when I get my gun.

This week's deal title, Parking Mania (WP), proves popular in second place with over 300 starters. I got the game myself and have been enjoying parking cars, tankers and trucks like a pro. I do find there's something missing though. Maybe it's the crunching sound when you accidentally back up over a crate full of recently delivered Statisticle replacements.

Previous deal title, iBlast Moki (WP), also continues to maintain a solid position in third. Whereas this week's new release, Babel Rising 3D (2013) (WP) doesn't inspire much of a following in sixth with almost 70 starters. You'd think after the other four(!) iterations of the same game didn't exactly pull in high numbers, the makers would get the hint. Having said that, rolling a giant boulder down a slope towards a bunch of hapless little followers does remind me of the jollities of last summer's TA Stats Office Away Day.

Games Completed
4,182 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 5,938 games between them (1,157 different games).

I have to say that I'm disappointed not to see GTA V on Retail Games Completed seeing as the game is now actually completable thanks to the launch of GTA Online. What are you guys waiting for!?! 30 Platinum Awards surely isn't that tough. Instead, thanks to a few dedicated footie fans, FIFA 14 sits at the top with nearly 150 completions.

Thanks to Epic seemingly feeling rather generous, players have been managing to finish up Gears of War: Judgment after the ribbons needed for Sybarite have begun to change each day. Over 100 players have jumped on this already, putting the game at second, and I'm sure many more will follow in the coming weeks.

Top Retail Games Completed

Yawn at Arcade Games Completed giving us a very familiar table, with the exception of the dirt cheap, super easy and very strange Zeno Clash in ninth with 23 completions.

Top Arcade Games Completed

The previous week's easy discount titles UNO (WP) and iBlast Moki continue to dominate this week. A couple more people finished Angry Birds Star Wars II (WP) this week, jumping it from seventh to third. Also, Collapse! (WP) jumps back onto the table to tease me. A cursory glance at the numbers proves this tease is nothing more than just that, as there are still 288 players out there who can't take the ten minutes needed to finish the game and give me ultimate satisfaction. Selfish so-and-so's.

Achievements Won
81,565 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 595,911 achievements online between them (46,463 different achievements).

Almost 37,500 of the (at the time) nearly 70,000 GTA V players stepped off the plane into the game's online mode this week, giving us a very top heavy table. Only one other achievement, Crew Cut comes from the online side of things, with all the rest being for story progression, including finishing the game in fourth.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Although Might and Magic may have proved the more popular game, including taking the most won Arcade achievement with Young Hero, the rest of the game's achievements prove a bit more of a challenge. This allows Ascend to clean up on the rest of the table, claiming all nine spots after first.

And the man in the back said "Everyone attack" and it turned into a Tetris Blitz (WP).
And the girl in the corner said "Boy, I wanna warn ya, it'll turn into a Tetris Blitz".

Yes, I made the same reference last year with the release of Rock Band Blitz. It's a great song. So sue me.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Action-Adventure begins its descent on Genre, dipping below 11million for the first time in two weeks, to just under 9million. Nothing can touch it though, with the next three genres, Role-Playing, Sports and Shooter, almost neck and neck at second, third and fourth.

  • Role-Playing2,462,166

That's all I got for ya this week. I don't have time for an extra special table this week unfortunately, but I'll try and get you one for next week, when we'll also see if TellTale's latest outing can match the runaway success of The Walking Dead.

You stay classy, TA.
