Let's Talk with Kostas A M GR

By Cindy Minguez, 5 years ago
Welcome back, fair reader. This week, we're headed to the sunny Mediterranean to talk to one of our fellow TA'ers, a devoted gamer whose love of gaming encompasses more consoles than I've ever seen in one place. Let's say hi to our guest from Greece, KOSTAS A M GR.

B1ue: Hi, Kostas! Welcome!

Thanks, B1ue. I'm happy to be here.

B1ue: Gamertags almost always tell something about their owners. Tell us about yours.

Kostas is my first name. A is the first letter of my father’s name. M is my surname’s first letter. GR is my country of origin (Greece).

B1ue: How long have you been gaming?

Well, it must be 25 years already.

B1ue: Do others in your family game, or are you a first-generation gamer?

Absolutely, I am a first generation gamer.

B1ue: What do your parents/significant other/friends have to say about your gaming?

Back in the eighties, I was a little boy, so it was no big deal to play videogames. In the nineties, it was a little weird to still play video games. In 00’s, some thought I must be a nerd. Nowadays, some of my friends think I am a professional gamer.

B1ue: So you’re not a professional gamer, I take it. What do you do?

I am a teacher

B1ue: I’m a teacher, too! What do you teach?

: I teach elementary school, children ages 6-12. I also teach some university classes in physics and computer science.

B1ue: What other hobbies do you enjoy?

: Collecting comics. My favourite company was Image Comics back in the 90’s, but I was reading comic books from almost every major comic publisher. In the last 15 years, I discovered Manga, and I can say I love Japanese comics a lot. I also love to watch Anime stuff, especially One Piece. Finally, I collect Collector’s Editions for 360 games.

B1ue: You have some impressive collectible versions there. How long have you been collecting those?

: Since the Xbox 360 came out. In the pics, you can only see the collector's editions that come in "smaller" packages. Larger ones like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's Legendary Edition or Halo 4's Legendary Edition are kept in my dungeon.

B1ue: Wow, I bet your dungeon is something to see... smile

kostas games and comics

B1ue: Are those some of your comics beside your game collection?

Yes, those are only a few manga. My entire collection of American and Manga comics exceeds 5,000 pieces. I probably need another house just for my comics and video games.

B1ue: What part of the world do you live in? If I were to visit, what sights could I simply not miss?

I live in Greece. I think most of you know about our ancient culture and history. Please remember us for them, not for the recent economic crisis. We are not lazy people; we are not liars; we are proud but without proper politicians. Anyone is welcomed in my country. You can see countless monuments, museums, ancient sites, beautiful beaches, and a very bright sun. Acropolis, Parthenon, Thermopylae (Hot Gates) are only a few of the many monuments you can see.

Blue: It’s been a long while since I’ve been to Greece, but I remember how beautiful I found it to be. Delphi sticks out particularly in my memory, and I've never seen water such a deep, clear blue. The people were quite lovely, too. We were window shopping, and a man walked right out of his store, grabbed my face, and gave me a big kiss on the cheek. I turned red, but it was very sweet.

Um...but this isn't about me....

Of what real life achievement are you most proud?

The greatest achievement in my life is and always will be my family. We all are very close and stand up for each other. I could do anything for them.

B1ue: What’s your favorite game of all time on any console? What makes it special?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I think it is the greatest game of all time. The atmosphere, the story, the feeling, the magic being the hero of time…I have played this game five times in different formats, and every time I feel the same awesomeness.

B1ue: Do you remember the first game you played? What’s your fondest memory of it?

: Sure. It was Super Mario on NES. I was absorbed when I first saw Mario jumping, running, and saving the princess. I can remember my parents trying to figure out how to make me put down the controller. I played non-stop in the first days back then. Since then, I am a die-hard Nintendo fan.

B1ue: If some evil spell allowed you to own only a single game for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time again. For me, it is the epitome of games.

B1ue: Any games you regret putting on your gametag?

Gamerscore has made me play A LOT of crap games. Where to start? My Horse and Me 2? Hannah Montana The Movie? For some reason I cannot explain, I almost enjoyed them when the achievement-pop sound rang in my ears. I must confess that I am more a gamerscore hunter than a gamer nowadays.

B1ue: I think that can be said of a lot of us since we've discovered achievements.

Tell us about your gamer pic. Why did you choose that one?

It is one of the free pics. It depicts a samurai on a horse. The reason I chose this pic was my interest in Japanese culture and my respect for the samurai code of honor.

B1ue: Another ancient culture like yours. I sometimes wish we had such a long history...

What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?

Forza Motorsport 5, but I am not sure I will buy XBOX ONE soon.

B1ue: I haven't been especially impressed with Microsoft lately, so I can appreciate that sentiment.

What game are you most proud of completing? Why?

: I wouldn’t say proud, but I would say The Outfit is the game I have put the most effort in so far. It took me and my good friend St Tony22 almost two years to complete it.

B1ue: Wow, you have a bunch of TA points, and you're #1 in Gamerscore for Greece! Congratulations! That's really impressive. How long did it take you to accumulate such an impressive tally?

: Well, back in 2006, when I first bought an Xbox 360, I wasn't that serious about gaining points. So the first two years, I just played the single player and never cared about online. After a while, I became obsessed with gamerscore and started to create gamerscore targets to pass. So mainly the last 4-5 years, I've been deep into achievement/gamerscore hunting.

B1ue: If you found yourself dropped into a video game, which video game character would you most want to have your back?

: Samus from the Metroid series. She is powerful; she is beautiful; she has it all.

B1ue: In the same scenario, what character/creature would you least like to see headed your way?

I wouldn’t like to come face-to-face with any Locust creature.

B1ue: Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?

The guy with the chainsaw in Resident Evil 4 HD (Xbox 360) and Resident Evil 6 (Xbox 360).

B1ue: Ever had any bad experiences online?

I mostly play with good friends, and some of the best gamers in the world I met here on Trueachievements, and for that, I thank you. St Tony22, https://www.trueachievements.com/D4RK+I+FuRy+I.htm,Musquito, Wallace Suka, planting42, flyingmario5404, and many, many more. They are very good guys, willing to help, and I respect them. So, no bad online experiences for me.

B1ue: Do you prefer single player or multi-player?

Single player, and I am very frustrated when I see companies push so much multi-player against the single-player experience. Today, the single player experience is just 6-8 hours long. Unacceptable. Fifteen years ago, a good game with less than 20 hours of gameplay was a crime. For that reason, I am not buying the high-profile games from day one. I do not want to pay 60 euros for a game with just 8 hours in single-player. The multi-player should be a plus for the games, not the main factor.

B1ue: Do you have a favorite group of friends you like to play with? If so, how did you meet?

St Tony22, who suggested that I join TrueAchievements. D4RK IFuryI, Musquito, Wallace Suka, Planting42, FlyingMario5404, adiash73, all of whom I met on your site.

B1ue: If you could have a mult-iplayer session with anyone in the world, whom would you choose? Why?

No one. I like single-player, as I said.

B1ue: What other consoles do you own? What are your favorites on those platforms?

NES – Super Mario
SNES – The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
N64 – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Gamecube – Super Smash Bros Melee
WII – Super Mario Galaxy 2
WIIU – Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Gameboy – Tetris
Gameboy Advance – Golden Sun
DS – New Super Mario Bros
3DS – Kid Icarus Uprising
Playstation – Gran Turismo 2
Playstation 2 – Gran Turismo 4
Playstation 3 – God of War 3
PSP – Valkyrie Chronicles

B1ue: Wow! Talk about spreading the love... smile

Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to that you were disappointed in when it finally arrived? Tell us about it.

I can remember many times having high expectations for a game that were never met. One of the biggest disappointments was Gears of War 3. As I said, I like the single-player experience. The game was too short, too over-hyped; the story was bad. Everything seemed wrong. After a very good Gears of War 2, I expected much more. For that, I bought GoW 3 day one, but I finished the game with a bitter taste.
