TA Gaming Stats - October 14th to 20th 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period October 14th to October 20th 2013.

I don't know if you've been watching the Kashyyyk news at all, but there's a real storm brewing at the moment. One which might lead to me and my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, being trapped indoors without power for the next few days. Oh well, at least I'll have a steady supply of fur blankets and meaty snacks. It's just as well, because it's a quiet week here on stats, right before things start to gear up again next week.

Games Started
17,179 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 24,503 games between them (1,852 different games).

It's now been a month since Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360) took a big fat number dump on our tables and it's been dominating ever since. This week, the only game that comes close to challenging its numbers is on the Arcade table. The closest we get on Retail is this fortnight's free "Games with Gold" title, Halo 3 and that takes second place with extremely sub-par, under 1,000, numbers. This is very low, considering the first free game, Fable III, took over 6,000 in its first free week and Assassin's Creed II took over 4,500 in its own. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that so many people...already have it. As highlighted in my first special stats table almost three quarters of all the players registered on the site already had the game before it was made free and many of the others probably have no interest in it free or not.

The only new release of the week, Skylanders SWAP Force (Xbox 360), doesn't exactly pull in high numbers with under 300 starters in fifth. Then again, most of us aren't kids. Well, not little kids. The Statisticles love these games, all 280 of them, and get completely suckered into buying all the toys, all 1 kajillion of them. They waste all their pocket money. Although, that takes me back to when I used to do the same with POGs, Tazos and Panini sticker albums, so I can't really be too mad.

Positive reviews and word of mouth have no doubt buoyed the numbers for The Wolf Among Us (Xbox 360) this week, keeping it over the 1,000 starters mark in first and actually growing its number by 11. The previous "Games with Gold" freebie continues to do well despite a lack of freeness thanks to those who started playing this week, taking in 900 starters in second.

On the new release front, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Editions takes in nearly 240 in fifth; a number that probably would have been a fair bit higher had the game been available outside of the US. Although that's nothing to complain about, seeing as other territories have had it for almost two years.

Out of the two arcade games reduced on Deal of the Week this week, only Storm makes the table with 90 starters in eighth. Capsized doesn't make it, but that may have something to do with its two unobtainables.

Deal of the Week title, Rocket Riot (WP), almost almost comes within striking distance of perennial leader Tetris Blitz (WP). Unfortunately, it doesn't quite make it, taking 165 starters to Tetris's almost 200. Elsewhere, free-to-play continues to dominate. I know I get requests for Windows 8 tables and I discount them because they're just dominated by freebies, but I'm starting to wonder how worth Windows Phone tables are now they are mostly the same... Thoughts?

Games Completed
5,048 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,074 games between them (1,190 different games).

Last week's most completed game, Gears of War: Judgment, which has jumped up the table thanks to the increased ease of its rarest achievement, slips into second this week behind the increasingly growing might of GTA V. Rockstar's smash hit grows in completions from 130 to 220; a number that is only going to get bigger in the coming weeks. In fact, I wonder when it will start to get smaller.

Another piece of under-advertised DLC, "The Chronicles Pack", puts Metro: Last Light back on the table in fourth with nearly 85 completions. This one is promised to be the last one, but did anyone notice the others?

Top Retail Games Completed

As with last week, the easy completion of The Wolf Among Us continues to dominate, this time growing its numbers from under 500 to over 620. Millionaire also represents easy gamerscore, with over half of its starters this week taking the full 400. Unfortunately, no one became an actual millionaire though. It's always disappointing when a game under delivers.

Top Arcade Games Completed

With Rocket Riot an easy completion (currently at over 47% of players have finished it), the game easily takes second place. However, Cut the Rope: Experiments (WP) takes first for some reason I can't quite discern, apart from the fact that it too is super easy.

Achievements Won
63,238 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 465,465 achievements online between them (47,990 different achievements).

GTA V: Clean Sweep V.

Top Retail Achievements Won

The single Might and Magic achievement that has taken the top spot in the last couple of weeks now drops into seventh, allowing The Wolf Among Us to take the top six places with all its story progression achievements and eighth with its sole non-story based one.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Even the popular and easy Rocket Riot can't get a strong footing in seventh, eighth and ninth, with Tetris claiming the top six spots and tenth.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Action-Adventure continues its slow and steady descent in first. Although I'm sure Batman: Arkham Origins will help bolster it next week. Elsewhere, the numbers and places remain pretty steady, with the exception of Adventure jumping up another space from ninth to eighth, thanks to The Wolf Among Us

That's all for now chaps and chapesses. I can hear the rain hammering against the window and the wind howling outside. Oh wait, that's just Zanzibar the Statisticle who I sent outside a few hours ago to bring the laundry in off the line and then completely forgot about.
