This report is for the period October 21st to October 27th 2013
Welcome TA'ers to this, some numbers on some tables accompanied by some words.
This week we finally get some real competition for *that* game as the release calendar starts to hot up. I say "hot up" because my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, accidentally set fire to our wall calendar with upcoming releases on it. I say "accidentally set fire to" because it was during a game of "Flaming Fur Balls"; one of my favourites in the Stats office, especially as the cold winter months draw in.Games Started
20,236 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 28,894 games between them (1,808 different games).
After five weeks of lording over the retail table like a big bully, Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360)
finally gets cut down to size thanks to not one but two new releases this week. Both new releases come from the world of comics, with DC's Dark Knight taking first with Batman: Arkham Origins
, whereas LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox 360)
follows in second. Batman
takes almost 4,000 starters to LEGO Marvel
's almost 1,500, whilst GTA V
manages to stay above the 1,000 mark.
In a week chock full of new releases, we also get Rocksmith 2014 Edition (Xbox 360)
taking nearly 500 starters in fifth and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
in seventh with almost 300. Finally, even though it shows up a week earlier than its official release, over 200 advance copies of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360)
put the game in ninth. Next week we'll discover if series newcomer Edward Kenway has what it takes to topple old Bats.Top Retail Games StartedThe Wolf Among Us (Xbox 360)
continues to lead the pack on the Arcade table, despite slashing its starters by over half to under 500.
New release, zombie survival actioner How to Survive
, manages to lure over 250 starters into its gaping maw in fourth place. Arcade sequel Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD
bridges the gap between 2010's series reboot Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
and the upcoming Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
, and takes 160 starters in sixth place. The other new release of the week, physics-puzzler Magrunner: Dark Pulse
, doesn't scratch the surface of the charts and currently only has 50 starters. A shame because I hear quite good things.
Out of the multiple discounted titles on Shocktober
, only the poorly reviewed but easily completed Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime
makes the table, in eighth with just over 100 starters.Top Arcade Games Started
Like GTA V
in retail, two titles knock the game that has headed up the Windows Phone table for weeks: Tetris bloomin' Blitz
. First up is deal title Mirror's Edge (WP)
which jumps up to top of the table and grabs over 180 starters. This is followed by Angry Birds Star Wars II (WP)
with almost 170 starters. The leap in numbers and places may seem strange to some of you, as may the appearances in the bottom half of the table of all the other Angry Birds
titles and Rovio's other title, Amazing Alex (WP)
. The reason for the sudden boost in these games' popularity isn't just because all of the Statisticles decided to go on a Rovio binge (which they did), but also because they were briefly, seemingly accidentally, made completely and utterly free
. These freebies were also joined by some unexpected discounts, which explains Dream Track Nation (WP)
's appearance in sixth.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
5,425 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,565 games between them (1,201 different games).
The completions for GTA V
continue to grow this week, albeit at a much slower rate, going from 220 to 225 in second. Pole position goes to Saints Row IV
with over 300 completions thanks to nice and easy "Enter the Dominatrix
With a mega easy completion (over 43% of players have finished it), new release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
takes third place with over 100 completions. Despite not having enough starters to appear on the Games Started tables, the also easy to complete SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge
takes seventh place with over 50 completions.
Now that Epic's generosity with the Sybarite
achievement requirements has come to an abrupt end after three weeks, Gears of War: Judgment
has swiftly dropped from the table.Top Retail Games Completed
With the "400 Days
" DLC for The Walking Dead (Xbox 360)
on offer for Shocktober only less than three months after its release, almost 700 TAers picked it up to finisher the game and put it in first place, above Telltale's new adventure, The Wolf Among Us
. With Season Two
just revealed, we're going to have a very Telltale heavy Christmas.
In what must be the worst delay for achievements to be released to Xbox.com, the "Zambia Pack
" for arcade racer Mad Riders
finally got its achievements live...16 months after the DLC was released. The 3 achievements in the pack are super easy and over 30 TAers put the game in eighth place. Was it worth the wait?Top Arcade Games Completed
Last week's deal title Rocket Riot (WP)
blasts its way to the top with a relatively easy and minimally grindy completion (for a WP game). UNO (WP)
also reappears for the umpteenth time after being part of the unexpected discounts.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
59,836 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 508,139 achievements online between them (48,274 different achievements).
was the most started game, GTA V
proves to be very much still played, taking six spots on the table, including second and third. LEGO
doesn't even get a look in, despite having more starters than GTATop Retail Achievements Won
All eight "400 Days" achievements easily take their respective spots on the table, with The Wolf Among Us
settling for the bottom two.Top Arcade Achievements WonMirror's Edge

Thanks to the efforts of both Batman
Action-Adventure extends its lead again in first, after weeks of steady decline, pushing back up over the 7milion mark. Action sees a minor bump up from fifth to fourth thanks to the Turtle
power. Similarly, the extra The Walking Dead
players give Adventure a helping hand up to seventh and Rocksmith
puts Music and Rhythm onto the table in tenth.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
