will be released as a separate retail release before The Phantom Pain
As we already knew, Ground Zeroes
is a prologue to The Phantom Pain
that sees players take on a rescue mission to infiltrate a Cuban prison camp. Not only will this set events in motion for the plotline of The Phantom Pain
, it will also bridge the gap between the existing titles and the fifth "full Metal Gear Solid
also serves the purpose of introducing players to the new gameplay mechanics created by the more advanced FOX Engine, such as the large open environment or the effects of weather and time of day on the game's missions. Hideo Kojima stated:
The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way. There will be a significant difference in what METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, METAL GEAR SOLID: GROUND ZEROES has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.
