Capcom just announced Mega Man Universe for the Xbox Live. What is Mega Man Universe... well we are not quite sure either. It appears that Mega Man Universe is the classic type of Mega Man game but with new art direction. You can blast in the classic 2D pixel format or in a pseudo-stop motion action.

Remember how you can defeat bosses for their powers? Mega Man Universe is also a huge crossover game for the Capcom Universe. Now, not only can you get Ice Man's ice blast but you can also collect power-ups to transform into Ryu from Street Fighter or Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins. More cross-overs are implied by the announcement trailer including 1942, 1943, Final Fight, Magic Sword, Darkstalkers, and Bionic Commando.

GameSpot did an interview with the blue blaster's creator Keiji Inafune. Mr. Inafune is a bit ambiguous with his answers. Never directly answering what type of game this is.

GS: What kind of game is this?

KI: I can’t say what it is exactly at this point, but the people who I want to play are the fans who played Mega Man games growing up. You will see a lot of '80s influence in the sound and artwork used in the game, and in this teaser trailer, you can see a lot of the '80s theme we are going for.

GS: Will we be seeing standard platforming Mega Man action or will we be seeing things that mix that formula up?

KI: What do you think it’s going to be like? At Comic-Con, this new title Mega Man Universe will be born.
Inafune encourages you to use your imagination on what this new title could be and my imagination just created something potentially awe-inspiring!

Here is the announcement trailer, official press release to follow.
