TA Gaming Stats - Nov 25th to Dec 1st 2013

By Chewie, 5 years ago
This report is for the period November 25th to December 1st 2013.

Last week we managed to bring you One stats for launch week thanks to the hard work of some third party contractors, a clan of Gremlins, who used their expertise and experience in getting inside things and thoroughly screwing with them to produce the numbers. The Gremlins did so well that I'm thinking of keeping them on and naming them the Mogwai Meanies (MEAN-ies...geddit?!?). Unfortunately, my usual Ewok helpers, the Statiscticles aren't too happy with having the interlopers around and there have been a few disputes around the water cooler. Add to that the fact I really can't accommodate the extra staff and I'm going to have to make some cutbacks. I was struggling to figure out who to let go, but then I remembered that it's my birthday today. So, instead of some sort of performance based test that won't really tell me anything, I'll instead get all the Mogwai Meanies and Statisticles to bring me presents and who gets me what will determine who survives stays on the team. I think that's the fairest for everyone. Especially me.

Games Started
34,052 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 59,718 games between them (1,848 different games).

Rather than growing following the launch, the One numbers all see a decline in its second (and first full) week. Dead Rising 3 remains the most popular title, losing 1,000 starters to 2,500. Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox One) jumps up from fifth place into second, but only sees an increase of 100 starters. Forza Motorsport 5 and Ryse: Son of Rome drop from second and third to third and fifth, whereas Battlefield 4 (Xbox One) and Killer Instinct maintain their fourth and sixth place positions. All see drops between 500 and 1,500 starters, though.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox One) manages to step up above FIFA 14 (Xbox One) in seventh and Xbox Fitness jumps from tenth to ninth with the biggest increase of numbers on the table from over 400 to nearly 800. In tenth, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox One) appears on the table, kicking off Need for Speed Rivals (Xbox One) with its 600 starters.

360 numbers continue to take a dive with most people playing on the One and no new releases to speak of. Call of Duty: Ghosts drops below the 1,000 mark with all the other big release of the last few months following down the rest of the table, including Dishonored, which continues to get a bump in numbers thanks to the recent themed Deal of the Week.

After the big bump in numbers last week for "Games with Gold" freebie Iron Brigade to almost 6,000 starters, this week sees them slump to under 2,000. Although, it's still more than enough to secure the game's number one spot.

This week saw multiple sales, including Deal of the Week and Black Friday. Wolfenstein 3D, Motocross Madness, The Cave, Dust: An Elysian Tail and Dead Block all take places on the table thanks to the discounts, with between 150 and 700 starters.

Recently relisted and soon to be permanently shut down strategy title Galactic Reign (WP) continues to lure players in who are keen to grab its points before they disappear forever. It drops from over 400 starters to just under 300, but retains a first place position. With only 3 fewer starters, the first of this week's many discounted titles, Zuma's Revenge! (WP), takes second place. Also on offer on the table were Trivial Pursuit (WP), The Game of Life (WP), Picnic Wars (WP), RISK (WP) and Monopoly (WP), which no doubt lured players in with their easy completions as well as their discounted prices. This week's Deal of the Week was Halo: Spartan Assault (WP), which manages to take 120 starters smack bang in the middle of the table.

Games Completed
6,248 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,044 games between them (1,183 different games).

Although Games Started doesn't give us much to work with, Games Completed for the One kicks into gear after only 17 completions last week. LocoCycle (Xbox One) is still the most completed title with almost 80 completions. Dead Rising 3 is the second most completed title, with 65 completions, despite the huge number of zombies that need to be slayed to finish it. FIFA, Ryse and CoD: Ghosts take third, fourth and fifth. Last week's second place title (with 2 completions), Madden NFL 25 (Xbox One), slips to sixth this week, although its completions raise to 9. Rounding out the table with 5 or less completions each are Need for Speed Rivals (Xbox One), LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox One), Crimson Dragon and Skylanders SWAP Force (Xbox One).

Top Xbox One Games Completed

With so many people playing on the One affecting Games Started, it's going to have an even bigger effect on Games Completed for the 360. CoD: Ghosts, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remain the top three completed titles. Thanks to the 50% one day Black Friday sale on its recent "Champions Bundle" DLC, Halo 4 jumps up the table into fourth with 65 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

The recent "Title Update" for Happy Wars and its accompanying achievements help push the game back into the tables, with 100 completions in second. The extra completions for Iron Brigade help push it up to the table from tenth to fourth, even though it's only an increase of 20 from just over 40 to nearly 65.

A few of the easier discounted titles also make an appearance, including Mark of the Ninja in third with almost 90 completions. Some of these will be due to the discounts on the core game, but some will also be thanks to the "Special Edition" content also getting a reduction.

Although it got new DLC with "Breakdown", the difficulty of the new content to complete keeps State of Decay for appearing on the table.

Top Arcade Games Completed

The completions for Galactic Reign increase from 50 to 80 this week in first. A few of the those easy discounted titles fill the table, with Trivial Pursuit in second, Monopoly in third and The Game of Life in fourth.

Achievements Won
69,275 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 963,086 achievements online between them (49,029 different achievements).

I'm starting to long for a Retail title to shake up the Ghosts that have filled this table for weeks now.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Iron Brigade loses its clean sweep status thanks to two Wolfenstein achievements in sixth and tenth. I could see Wolfenstein's "B.J." Blazkowicz quite enjoying crushing Nazis in one of Iron Brigade's mobile trench units.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Although it isn't the most started title, Zuma's Revenge does take the most achievements won in first, third, fourth, sixth and eighth places. Galactic Reign manages to grab second, fifth and seventh, whilst the last two spots are taken by Trivial Pursuit.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

With so many One and sale titles representing the genre, Action-Adventure continues to rise in numbers from 7.5 million to over 9.5 million this week. Shooter also get a small rise in numbers in second from nearly 7 to just over 7 million. After its boost last week thanks to Forza and NfS, Racing slips back under Role-Playing this week. Although many of the Windows Phone sales titles were of the Card & Board variety, the boost in numbers isn't enough to see the genre make the table.

That's all this week, folks. Unfortunately, next week's releases don't exactly fill me full of excitement at the prospect of interesting numbers. I'm off to count my presents and shake them to start deciding if what I've been given is enough to pass muster. Who knows, maybe from next week I'll have an entirely Mogwai Meanie team of helpers. The Statisticles could be retired.
