Skullgirls Delisting Update

By Rebecca Smith, 5 years ago
A couple of weeks ago, we revealed that the publishing woes that had plagued Skullgirls since October had finally resulted in the potential delisting of the game from Xbox LIVE Arcade. A lot of you had concerns about potential changes to the game -- would the achievements stack? Would the online servers still be available? Do you wait for the new version or buy the old one? Well, Autumn Games has released an update on the situation and has clarified most of the details regarding the future of the game.

As you likely already know, Konami requested that the title be delisted from XBLA on December 31st. Autumn Games has found a new publisher for the title, MarvelousAQL, but they need to resubmit the game with a few changes. This submission will not be a separate game; it will be a patched version of the same game. Those players who were holding off on a purchase need not do so; regardless of whether you buy the title before its delisting or after its reappearance, it will be the same game.

When the patch has cleared the submission process, players who have already purchased the game will receive a title update and a new mandatory Compatibility Pack DLC will also appear in the Games Store. The game will also have a new name, Skullgirls: Encore. All leaderboards, achievements and save files will be unaffected by the transition. All previously purchased DLC will work with the new version of the game. There will not be a new set of achievements.

Unfortunately, MarvelousAQL can not submit the game to Microsoft until after the holiday period. This does mean that the game will be disappearing for a brief period of time. During this time, players will still be able to play online with the game. We're not sure exactly when the game will be reappearing, but Autumn is hoping to have the game back on the Xbox LIVE Games Store by the end of January 2014. Even though the Japanese version of the game is not published by Konami, this version will also disappear temporarily while the patch clears certification. Sales in Japan will be re-enabled once Skullgirls: Encore returns to the Games Store in other regions.

To thank everybody for the inconvenience and their patience during this period, the "Skullgirls Character Palette Bundle" DLC will become FREE for everybody for an unspecified but limited amount of time. The promised Squigly DLC will also be available and will be FREE to download; this too will be a limited time offer.
