TA Gaming Stats - January 6th to 12th 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period January 6th to January 12th 2014.

This one's going to be quick one folks, because:
A - it's a very quiet and not very interesting week
B - we've been working hard on the yearly Stats for 2013, which are:
A - much more interesting
B - very time consuming, so much so that my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, are either:
A - suffering extreme exhaustion
B - dead

Unfortunately, due to the above staff cutbacks and a few Chewieland issues, we haven't been able to get the final yearly article in shape to put out this weekend. We couldn't do it, captain. We just didn't have the power. Have no fear though, because it will be coming next week, along with chocolate, to say we're very sorry.

Games Started
27,771 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 41,469 games between them (1,911 different games).

With no new releases on the One this week, we get the same titles as usual (many from launch), just with smaller numbers. Interestingly, Dead Rising 3, which has maintained one of the most popular titles in the last couple of months, slips down to fourth, below Ryse: Son of Rome, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox One) and Battlefield 4 (Xbox One). Recent release Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox One) also slips down the table from second to seventh. With numbers between 280 and 620 though, there isn't a whole lot separating the title's this week.

Continuing its popular showing as this fortnight's free "Games with Gold" title, Sleeping Dogs pulls in massive number over 2,600. However, this is half what it achieved last week, when it first got the price cut. Like the One table, the rest of the table is made up of the biggest recent releases, with similar low numbers between 220 and 480.

The only title really worth pointing out is Spec Ops: The Line, which proves the most popular game from the 2K sale, in fifth with over 330 starters.

With the holiday sales now a thing of the past, many of the guest appearances on the Arcade table, now slip back down from whence they came, with the exceptions of The Wolf Among Us, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, which continue to prove popular in first, third and fifth.

The recently released free Microsoft titles, Microsoft Mahjong (WP), Microsoft Minesweeper (WP) and Microsoft Solitaire Collection (WP), continue to pull in the highest numbers. However, with between 300-400 starters, that's less than half of what they got last week. In fifth, Plants vs. Zombies (WP) proves the most popular of the titles in the EA sale, with just over 100 starters.

Games Completed
6,955 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,572 games between them (1,215 different games).

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Xbox One) slips from first to third on Games Completed as Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Xbox One) and Ryse both slightly increase their completions, although with them all hovering around the 100 mark, it's anybody's game who comes out on top.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

With a relatively easy completion for a sandbox title (currently at almost 18% of players having finished it) and with so many new people playing it, Sleeping Dogs easily lands the top spot with over 200 completions. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes takes second with over 120 completions, just 30 more than its One counterpart. That gives me an idea for a future special Stats table comparing 360 games and their One equivalents. I'll get the Statisticles on it as soon as they've recovered.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

As well as Brothers and Far Cry: BD, the Arcade table continues to feature the easier sales titles that have otherwise fallen off the started tables, including Deadlight and Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Temple Run 2 (WP) continues to pull in the completions with over 150 in first, above Mahjong and Minesweeper. Whereas, with much harder achievements, Microsoft Solitaire Collection (WP) is still nowhere to be seen (we've gone from 2 people having finished it to a grand total of 5).

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
70,652 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 808,158 achievements online between them (50,496 different achievements).

Sleeping Dogs takes the clean sweep with an almost carbon copy table as last week.

Top Retail Achievements Won

Same old, same old here, with Wolf filling up the table. At the bottom, a single Far Cry BD and a single The Walking Dead: Season Two achievement take the spaces occupied by Shoot Many Robots last week.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Mahjong continues its domination, proving more popular than Minesweeper (which does slip a couple in) and Solitaire (which doesn't).

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Action-Adventure sees a dip of 1 million, but still retains first place in Genre. Shooter also drops by 1 million in second. Action actually manages to increase its numbers in third thanks to Ryse and Temple Run. On the whole though, this was a down week, with all other genres seeing dips in numbers.

That's all this week, folks. Join us next week for that long promised yearly round-up and maybe a special table thrown in for good measure.
