Third Studio Joins Call of Duty Rotation

It's well known amongst gamers that in order to keep up with an annualized production schedule, game publishers will employ multiple development teams to meet those release dates. One such example is Activision's handling of their Call of Duty franchise. In order to ensure that one will be waiting for you every holiday season, Treyarch busily plugs away one year, most recently releasing, while Infinity Ward will release a title the next year, with their most recent effort being Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Game development is taking longer and longer these days, so Activision has now brought on a third studio to develop Call of Duty titles. Joining Treyarch and Infinity Ward is Sledgehammer games, which worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Sledgehammer Games will be the studio responsible for this year's Call of Duty release, which means that the next Treyarch installment should come in 2015, followed by Infinity Ward's offering in 2016.

We'll have more details about the newest Call of Duty as they become available.
