Xbox 360 ports of handheld games are becoming more and more common. Just lately we've seen Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD
, originally released on the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS respectively. Today saw Microsoft inadvertently reveal another game to be ported across from the 3DS: Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition
. While the Xbox.com page has since been removed, it was there for long enough for us to gather the all-important details for you.
Before we get to the nitty-gritty, I just want to clear up any possible misunderstandings. While the game has the misfortune to share its name with the now publicly-derided Batman: Arkham Origins
, they do not share developers. Developer Armature Studios made Blackgate
as a 2.5D side-scrolling companion game to Arkham Origins
and it continues the storyline of the latter title as players delve deeper into the past of the Dark Knight. Players will recognise the stealth gameplay and free-flow combat that is a key part of the Batman
franchise. The familiar XP system is absent from the game, though, and is replaced with an item-based system; the Dark Knight will still be armed to the teeth with gadgets but his progression through Arkham will be dictated by the gadgets that he possesses.
The Deluxe Edition will add a variety of new features to the game, including new maps, enemy encounters, difficulty levels and batsuits. The graphics will also receive an overhaul, as was to be expected with a game that was being ported to Xbox LIVE Arcade:
We eagerly await more details as Microsoft reveals more about the title. The release date for the title is yet to be confirmed. Although the Xbox.com page had a March date, these are notoriously unreliable so we will wait for something a little more definite.
