Hi, guys and girls! This week, our special guest is Bowmanx4587
, an avid player, devoted dad, and all-around nice guy. Let's give him a warm TA welcome!B1ue: Hi, Bowman! Welcome!
Hi, B1ue! Thanks!B1ue: Gamertags almost always tell something about their owners. Tell us about yours.
Well, about 8-9 years ago, I came across this MMO on the internet called Runescape
. My friends and people I knew were talking about this game for weeks; I guess at the time it was pretty big, so I decided to try it out, but I didn't have any idea what to make my username. I got distracted from creating a username by some flash games on the internet, one being a game called Bowman
. I decided to just use it as my name opener, cut it with an X and finish the combo with my five digit 45875 area code minus the 5 at the end because it didn't fit.B1ue: How long have you been gaming?
According to my family, I first picked up an NES controller when I was in the 2-3 year age range, I have very vague memories of this, but I do remember playing Excitebike B1ue: Do others in your family game, or are you a first-generation gamer?
Back in the day, my mom and her siblings were pretty big on the Nintendo, playing Mario Bros
and The Legend of Zelda
.B1ue: What do your parents/significant other/friends have to say about your gaming?
My mom has only ever had a problem with it when I was in school, sneaking up on my Gamecube or Gameboy playing at one or two in the morning, or when I was in high school, yelling at my 19" tube while playing Gears of War 2
online. (Hey, you'd be yelling, too, Anyone remember how bad their servers were at first?) My girlfriend and I are together now partly because of video games; we share a pretty big interest in them. My friends are all gamers, so everything's good there.B1ue: Assuming you’re not a professional gamer, what’s your day job?
Right now, I'm technically unemployed, but my Mom manages an apartment complex, and whenever people move out, I go in and basically fix up what they messed up. haha. It's not bad, but I am planning on attending a police academy in the summer to get a job at our sheriffs department. My mother was on the force for eight years, and it's just been something I've been interested in since I was a kid.B1ue: What other hobbies do you enjoy?
I like playing the occasional game of Magic the Gathering
card game with my friends. I don't know if it's a hobby, but I like going outside and just enjoying nice weather when we have it, shooting some hoops or throwing a football around. I can't stand being inside all the time. Sometimes I'll just go outside to cut wood for bonfires in the summer and fall. I guess I could say "The Outdoors" is another hobby. B1ue: Tell us about your home life – parents, spouse, children, significant other, animal companions?
Things here are really hectic right now because part of our town was flooded again for the tenth time probably. Our house was in that area, and we had to leave to a two-bedroom apartment, where we are still staying. I won't go into crazy detail, but it's just been insane. Anyway, my girlfriend, my son, and I live with my girlfriend's parents right now because of "situations." It's all not bad because we are like one happy family, and we all support each other. I do have a big black cat named Onyx whom was rescued from the outside after being abandoned by his motherB1ue: Your baby is adorable!!
Of what real life achievement are you most proud? Would you give us some details?
Definitely the birth of our son Leon. He's my pride and everything good. He's only two, but it has changed me so much in such a short amount of time. I completely look at things differently in life. I guess this could count as an achievement in itself, too, but I've never drunk alcohol, smoked, or done any drugs. I don't have time for that, only for my family and my games.B1ue: Seriously, people, isn't he adorable?
What’s your favorite game of all time on any console? What makes it special?
Probably Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage
on the Sega Genesis. I hold it special because it's the first game I played that gave me a serious challenge, and it's my REAL first game that I owned along with the system. I actually didn't beat the game until just last year. if anyone has played this game around here, they would know the pain.B1ue: Do you remember the first game you played? What’s your fondest memory of it?
I remember playing Excitebike
, but I can't say it was a very fond memory. I would instead go with The Legend of Zelda
on NES. I never did beat it as a kid, but my aunt showed me all kinds of secrets with the game like placing the bombs on certain walls to get the good items. It really amazed me as a kid.B1ue: If some evil spell allowed you to own only a single game for the rest of your life, what would it be? Why?
because it's an MMO; there's always something to explore, something to kill, and something to train. I've played this game for a long time, and I still come back to play every once in awhile to see what's new. If that doesn't count, then I would say The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
because it's probably got one of the highest replay values of games currently out.B1ue: What part of the world do you live in? If I were to visit, what sights would I have to see?
I live in a small town in Ohio called Ottawa. There is nothing here but memories for me. I guess if you visited sometime, you could stop at our Walmart because that is the biggest thing we have here. haha.B1ue: Any games you regret putting on your gamertag?
. That game had game-breaking bugs that didn't allow me to get all the achievements. It was very frustrating. Also any other games that I put on my tag before I started hunting for achievements, which really messed my completion percentage up. I wouldn't say I totally regret playing them; I just wish I could have them removed from my tag.B1ue: If you were forced to change your gamertag, what would you change it to? What would the new tag reflect about you?
If I was forced to? Probably something that had to do with the Marvel character Venom. I've had other names on various games like that but nothing that stuck like my name does now. B1ue: Tell us about your gamer pic. Why did you choose that one?
It's the Marvel character Venom, liked him since I was a kid, so I thought it would only make sense to display him as my stand-in in gaming. :) I sometimes change it to Spiderman, but it's mostly been Venom.B1ue: Do you have any particular gaming pet peeves?
When developers release games with glitched or buggy achievements. Around here it can be the worst thing to happen to a game. I'm looking at you, EA/Dice; everyone knows that nightmareB1ue: What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?
, been waiting a long time for a mech-type game with a ton of action, still waiting for Tom Clancy's The Division
, too. :)B1ue: What game are you most proud of completing? Why?
Probably my first real completion, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
-- it's what got me achievement hunting.B1ue: If you found yourself dropped into a video game, which video game character would you most want to have your back?
Dante from DmC: Devil May Cry
. He could be cracking jokes, making me laugh, all while killing demons at the same timeB1ue: In the same scenario, what character/creature would you most/least like to see headed your way?
The Boss at the end of Dante's Inferno
with the giant swinging ****. I didn't even notice it at first, but when I did, the whole fight became very awkward... B1ue: Any characters you would like seen thrown into video game hell?
Not characters specifically, but those guys from EA can jump right in.B1ue: Ever had any bad experiences online? How did you handle it?
I'm sure everyone has had several, I'll just name the common "spawn campers." The quote says it all; you could make a book about them.B1ue: Do you prefer single player or multi-player?
I prefer single player because I like getting immersed in the story of "most" games, but multi-player is nice sometimes because everyone likes to get his or her fill of owning noobs, right?B1ue: Do you have a favorite group of friends you like to play with? If so, how did you meet?
My girlfriend's brother and my other real life buddy are the only two people I ever really game online with, but I don't have a problem with that. I prefer to not be in a 5-6 person party with everyone trying to talk all at once. haha. I met my one buddy when I started dating my girlfriend almost six years ago and met my other buddy when my girlfriend's cousin came over with her boyfriend, who turned out to become one of my closest friends.B1ue: If you could have a multi-player session with anyone in the world, whom would you choose? Why?
Ronnie Radke, lead singer of my favorite band Falling in Reverse, who used to frontline Escape the Fate. I don't know, just seeing him in his interviews, he looks like a fun guy to be around. Or even Eminem -- both of these guys really, in the last few years, I've had this mad respect for them for getting clean and sober. That makes them very respectable IMO.B1ue: What other consoles do you own? What are your favorites on those platforms?
We own an Xbox One, Xbox 360, original Xbox is hiding somewhere.. a Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Playstation 2, Wii, and a Gamecube. Some of my favorites would have to be The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
on Gamecube, Resident Evil 4
on Gamecube, BattleToads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team
on Genesis, and Gears of War 3
on the 360.B1ue: Have you ever had a game you really looked forward to that you were disappointed in when it finally arrived? Tell us about it.
Bowman: Diablo III
was a let down to me, coming from someone who played Diablo II
religiously. It had so much potential to be a great game.B1ue: How do you use TA? Do you just track your score or post solutions or take part in gaming sessions?
I feel that's a very good question to be added to TA interviews. In my case, I've mostly used TA for solutions to help me in my completions, I've taken part in several gaming sessions, too. Before I joined TA, I wasn't much about achievements. I'd sometimes look at my achievement list and scroll through them, but that was pretty much it. But then I was on xbox360achievements.org
when it used to be that, and I was looking at a news story that was related to a site called Trueachievements.com
. I can't remember what exactly got me to join, but I took a little tour and liked this idea of "hunting achievements." Only gamers can really understand this type of hobby; it just really pushes you to go that extra mile in video games to do things you normally wouldn't when you are achievement hunting. Take collectibles for example, I know I never went for those before achievements.
It has been my goal for a few years to get to 100k gamerscore, which isn't much to some people, but to me, it's the first real milestone in achievement hunting. As of writing this, I am about 5K gamerscore off this milestone. I'm about 35 achievements away from 5000 total achievements won, which is another milestone. It's very exciting for me. As of the Xbox One release, I also made it my goal to 100% every Xbox One game that I own, which is going to prove difficult with Killer Instinct
, but, eventually, it will happen.B1ue: Tell us about your gaming set-up.
Well, I'll be getting an upgrade here soon, but right now I have a 42" plasma 720p HDTV. I have a custom-built gaming PC right next to my console gaming area and a double-sided shelf for all my games and a Triton Ghost recon edition headset. Like I said before our, house was flooded, so we are stuck here for now, but my setup before included a surround sound system and many gaming posters hanging up on the wall to get that gaming "feel."****************

**********************B1ue: Is there anything in particular you want the TA community to know about you?
Yeah, that I'm just a normal person. I may be an avid gamer, but I try my best for my son and my girlfriend. I don't let my hobby take over my life and may not have a set-in-stone job right now, but I have plans.B1ue: Is there anything I haven’t asked that you want to talk about?
Yeah, I just want to say that if anyone wants to friend request me and game sometime, go ahead! I actually partly did this interview in hopes of getting my name out here on TA and meeting some friendly achievement hunters.B1ue: Any shout-outs you want to make before we go?
Yeah, to everyone in the TA community for (mostly) making this a great place.Oohhh I wish my buds would sign up for TA, so I could make shout-outs to them, but it's all right. Also, thanks to everyone here who has helped me in boosting sessions or just helped me at all in anything achievement-related. Also, thanks to you, B1ue, for the opportunity for this interview, I really enjoyed it!
And there you have it, folks. Thanks so much to Bowmanx4587 for taking the time to tell us a little about his world. Come back in a couple of weeks for our next guest, Joe Cares
Come back to see me, and...let's talk.
