Abyss Odyssey Revealed

ACE Team, the developers who brought us Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages, have just recently announced a brand new arcade title that is set to mix things up a bit with a unique mechanic. Get ready to delve into the depths in Abyss Odyssey.

Abyss Odyssey is a downward journey into the depths of the unknown. Developed by ACE Team (Zeno Clash series, Rock of Ages), Abyss Odyssey is dripping with Art Nouveau style. In the game, three warriors are available to challenge the titular abyss: the bold Katrien, the tortured specter Ghost Monk, and the ethereal Pincoya. But no matter how powerful these warriors get, their descent is a circular trip - the action adventure of Abyss Odyssey is infinitely replayable.
Fighting the abyss sounds like quite the challenge, and it's this circular trip which makes the side-scrolling game unique. As you descend further into the perils of the dark abyss, the game will never play out the same way twice. Monster placements, merchants, and pathways will constantly change their locations, which means the game practically never ends. Only two things remain the same: a great evil awaits the warriors at the bottom of the pit and they will have to endure this battle for all eternity. These randomly generated levels mean an infinitely replayable game for all who experience it.

Another interesting aspect in Abyss Odyssey is that the player will be able to take control of the monsters he or she comes across through the means of possession. When controlling the monsters, you will have full access to their abilities and skills, but that doesn't mean an easy ride to the bottom. These beasts are as technically complex as the warriors themselves, so the AI won't be all that forgiving. Players will need to be on their toes when they face their next foe in battle and master technically demanding techniques to come out victorious.

An official announcement video has also been released where the guys at ACE themselves introduce the game to us and discuss what we should expect from the side-scrolling adventure.

Abyss Odyssey will be a downloadable title and currently has a release window of summer 2014. Stay tuned for when we hear more!
