This report is for the period March 10th to 16th 2014
Welcome to the Stats for the begiddle© (beginning-middle) of March here on TA. After the scheduling nightmares
of the last few weeks, we're settled down a bit more now, so things can go back to normal and I'll hopefully have a new special table ready for you next week. My Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, haven't settled quite as well and have been spontaneously spraying all over the furniture, due to a mix of moving stress and the stress of seeing such big numbers on the tables after so long. What big numbers you ask? Read on.Games Started

When I see anything about Titanfall
it just reminds me of the giant versions of the robot thing in Power Rangers. I always wondered why they waited to turn massive after the baddie turned big, instead of just turning big at the beginning of the battle and smooshing the monster into the dirt. I guess the episodes would have been a lot shorter then, though. Because of those nostalgic links and my desire to walk around inside a big hulking robot, I ordered my own the other day. Oh no, not a copy of the game. An actual Titan. Unfortunately, the one that came turned out to be a 12" diecast model instead of the real thing. Severe disappointment. So I've recruited a sub-team of Statisticles to work in the basement on building my own version. I look forward to seeing what they put together next week.
Oh, right, yeh, stats!!
It's been a while since we last saw numbers quite this big, but Titanfall (Xbox One)
storms it with almost 21,000 starters. The One has never seen such numbers. Even on launch week
, the best it could muster was around 3,700, and no (admittedly few and far between) new release has managed to reach above 2,000 starters since that week. In fact, I think it will be a couple of months before another game gets close (maybe Watch_Dogs (Xbox One)
?). It'll also be interesting to see how the 360 version's numbers compare when it is released next month.
Elsewhere, recent new releases Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox One)
and THIEF (Xbox One)
slink away to cry with only 460 and 330 starters, despite holding second and third place. The rest of the table almost isn't worth talking about seeing as the numbers are so low. It's mostly all the biggest titles for the console since its launch with between a pitiful 140 and 240 starters. The only title of note is Forza Motorsport 5
, which sees a bump up from ninth to fourth with 240 starters thanks to...something? I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's because it's part of the standard One bundle, which has seen a boost in sales thanks to the Titanfall
buzz, despite there being a separate Titanfall
bundle.Top Xbox One Games Started
Although it can't touch the big numbers on the One table, this week's 360 release Dark Souls II
pulls in a decent nearly 4,800 starters to take first place. It doesn't reach the heights of last week's new release, South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360)
, which managed over 6,000 starters. But that game doesn't retain those figures as it slips into second with just over 2,000, allowing the notoriously difficult RPG to take prime position.
In its last few days of freeness, "Games with Gold" title Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
sits in third with under 1,700 starters. The final day of this period saw the changeover to new "Games with Gold" title, the XBLA tower defence game Dungeon Defenders
, so we'll see if that appears on the Arcade table.
In a week with fairly low numbers, Deal of the Week
title SoulCalibur V
manages to grab fourth place with over 600 starters.Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Started
Most of this week's table closely resembles last week's, with free-to-play World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition
and previous "Games with Gold" freebie Toy Soldiers: Cold War
still holding court at the top, above the consistently popular Telltale sagas and previous sales titles. The only one of the eight Arcade titles on sale this week to make the chart is Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
in fourth with 180 starters.Top Arcade Games Started
Last week's new free-to-play title Throne Together (WP)
continues to pull in decent numbers this week in first, dropping from 670 to 400 starters. After being released and then swiftly pulled a few weeks ago, Rayman Fiesta Run (WP)
sees a proper release this week, grabbing 380 starters in second. This week's sale title geoDefense (WP)
, proves a lot more popular than last week's, Real Racing 2 (WP)
, which failed to place. The easily completed tower defence title takes third place with almost 160 starters.Top Windows Phone Games StartedGames Completed
7,138 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,312 games between them (1,257 different games).PvZ
remains the most completed One game by a stretch, managing to stay above 200 completions for the second week running. Thief
sneaks up the table five places to steal fourth, going from 30 to nearly 70 completions.Top Xbox One Games Completed
Although both titles see an increase in completions this week, South Park
takes the top spot away from Civilization
as it jumps from under 150 to almost 590 completions, whereas the classic strategy title only goes from nearly 200 to just over 250 in second.
Although the One version saw a slight dip in completions, the 360 version of PvZ
increases its completions, going from 60 to over 90 and climbing from ninth to third place. With the sequel now out, the completions for Dark Souls
continue to come in, although they drop slightly this week from almost 70 to 50, meaning the game slips from its unusually high fifth down to ninth place.
This is now the fourth week the two LEGO titles have stood hand in hand on the table. This time, however, they don't move position despite the changes around them, which is almost more creepy. They're like those twins in The Shining.Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed
The completions for The Walking Dead: Season Two
continue to pour in thanks to "Episode 2: A House Divided
. Despite dropping by almost two thirds from 3,300 to nearly 1,200 completions, the game still easily takes first place with ten times more completions than the next title, The Wolf Among Us
A recent spate of double fame weekends helps put otherwise mega grindy free-to-play title Spartacus Legends
on the table in sixth with 60 completions.Top Arcade Games Completed
Unlike its console cousins and its WP predecessor, Rayman Jungle Run (WP)
, Fiesta Run
proves an easy completion, taking first with 80. Currently over 30% of players have finished it, compared to the between 1% and 11% of the other Rayman games.
The easy completion of deal title geoDefense
puts the game in third with almost 30 completions.Top Windows Phone Games CompletedAchievements Won
72,267 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 882,523 achievements online between them (50,012 different achievements).
Unfortunately, we still don't have One achievements won on these Stats (they're coming soon!), but needless to say, it's all Titanfall
. On the 360 we get a mix of Dark Souls II
and South Park
. The top five achievements show the five achievements in Dark Souls
that have been acquired by over 50% of players, one of which is, naturally, for dying for the first time
(of many). Interestingly, the most attained South Park
achievement is Stick Savior
for completing the game, just a week after its release.Top Retail Achievements Won
The eight "House Divided" achievements for Walking Dead S2
continue to fill the majority of the table, with World of Tanks
clinging onto the bottom two places.Top Arcade Achievements Won
With its easy completion, Rayman
grabs eight spots on the table, but loses out to first (and sixth) to Throne Together
.Top Windows Phone Achievements Won
After settling for second for a little while, Shooter was having none of it this week, using a Titan to storm from 5.5 million to a very healthy 13.2 million into first. Dark Souls
also gives Role-Playing back its second place spot after it slipped into third last week, helped also by Action-Adventure seeing a slip from 6.2 million to under 4.8 million in third.Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
That's all for this week. See you next week when we see if the Titanfall
figures hold and I get to test out my new Titan. I can hear a fair lot of banging and screwing coming from the basement so I hope that's the Statisticles putting it together and not just banging and screwing each other. They have a tendency to do that if you leave them alone together in the dark.
