Super Time Force
winner of the XBLA Award at the 2012 Independent Games Festival, is a 2D platformer, and we have some new details about the upcoming shoot 'em up out of the ID@xbox Showcase event last week.
First, how about a quick catch-up on the story? In the year 198X, one Dr. Repeatski invents time travel, instantly plunging the world into a chaotic state filled with fire, robot armies, and other assorted bedlam. It's up to you to guide perhaps the motliest crew of characters in gaming history through different eras to - presumably - undo the mess Dr. Repeatski made. If it wasn't made clear in our synopsis, this isn't a game that takes itself too seriously.Super T.I.M.E. Force
is very much like any other platformer in the jumping and shooting departments. Where it gets interesting is the Time Out ability. Time Out lets you rewind time so that you can take a crack at a level again. You can switch out characters, collect items, and even play with a past version of yourself, rather like a past me coming to the rescue of...er...me.
Tech Director Kenneth Yueng explained that Capybara used Quantum mechanics to ensure that the time-shifting madness worked. According to Yueng:
We had no idea it would be this involved when we first got started. But we think it makes the game interesting, that nobody's thought of these things.
In addition to the interesting gameplay, the game boasts a varied cast of characters that can be picked up along the way, such as Zackasaurus, Jef Lepperd, and Squirty Harry. You can also find yourself in eras as diverse as one million B.C., the far future, and the 1980's. The game promises to be a wild ride.Super T.I.M.E. Force
will be coming to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One sometime early this year.
