TA Gaming Stats - March 24th to 30th 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period March 24th to March 30th 2014.

Last week I promised you a special table in this week's Stats, well how about four! Yes, you asked for it (many, many times) and we finally delivered. Introducing Stats for Win 8 titles here on TA.

The (surviving after last week's slaughter) Statisticles worked day and night over the last week getting them working for you. Many have now joined the ranks of their fellows (see preceding parenthesis). Oh, and as a bonus, they also managed to get One Achievements Won working. I'm very proud of the little chaps. Because they were working up until the last minute, these Stats are a little later than usual. Additionally, they were re-generated closer to the publishing date to include the new tables, which also means the numbers are slightly inflated to include any TA'ers who had been scanned in since the normal generation day i.e. people who only have weekly scanning. We're also working on adjusting that so the Stats for the future are more of an accurate representation to include those people, but that may be a few weeks (and a new batch of Statisticles) in the making.

Games Started
30,952 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 44,786 games between them (1,915 different games).

Titanfall (Xbox One) continues to slip in numbers, but it remains solidly in first place with the absence of any more new releases since Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Xbox One) last week. That game remains in second but over halves its starters to just over 1,000.

Two titles jump up in numbers thanks to a 50% discount over the weekend, with THIEF (Xbox One) climbing up from fourth to third and Tomb Raider - Definitive Edition reappearing on the table in fourth.

South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360) continues to hold 1,000 starters, whilst Dark Souls II sees a tumble from nearly 1,200 to 700 and falls from first to third place, letting Cartman and co take the lead again.

Although the weekend sale gives a small boost to THIEF, putting it back on the table in tenth, the Deal of the Week has a bigger impact, putting BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) all the way up to second with over 700 starters thanks to a bonza two-thirds discount on the price. The also discounted other Bioshock titles don't quite make it, though.

Last week's new release, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, didn't pull in anywhere as good numbers as its One version and this week sees those numbers get even lower, slipping from 780 in third to 430 in fifth.

The public beta for Crytek's 360 port of their popular online shooter, Warface has certainly proved popular, with over 3,800 TA'ers taking part in the first few days, putting the game way out in front on the Arcade table and pulling in more starters than any 360 Retail and One titles. I'd love to find out what a "warface" actually looks like. I imagine it's a cross between an "I just stubbed my toe and then banged my head when I bent over to rub it" face and an "I desperately need to fart but I'm scared I might poop" face.

Elsewhere, current "Games with Gold" freebie Dungeon Defenders continues to pull in below par numbers with under 600 starters. As some of you astutely pointed out last week, this may be more to do with the game being extremely stingy with achievements for a good chunk of play time, rather than the game being not so popular despite its freeness. I wouldn't know as I passed on it.

New release Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Duels pulls in meh numbers, settling with fourth place and 415 starters. Can anyone explain to me what a "Yu Gi Oh" actually is? It sounds like the kind of thing one might shout when pulling a warface.

What's this? A new Windows Phone game that is *shock, horror* free-to-play. I jest of course. Pretty much every one of the occasional Live-enabled releases for the last year or so has followed the pricing model and Hexic (WP) is no different, pulling in over 1,300 hexagon lovers. Even games that did have a price point are now changing to free as Angry Birds Rio (WP) has now shed any cost and is available for the grand total of zero. At that irresistible price over 830 TA'ers were lured into it in second.

With the recent release of Rayman Fiesta Run (WP), Rayman Jungle Run (WP) was Deal of the Week, putting the original in fifth with 90 starters, right above its successor in sixth with almost 80.

So, here it is. The excitement is almost too hard to take. Like its Windows Phone version, new release Hexic (Win 8) proves fairly popular with over 270 starters in second, whilst the other new release, FIFA 14 (Win 8), whose Windows Phone equivalent was released a month previous, takes third with 170 starters. However, Puzzle by Nikoli X Sudoku (Win 8) takes the crown in our inaugural Windows 8 table with 530 starters. The game has had a rather messy journey, released in September 2013 as LIVE enabled but with no actual achievements attached, then in February achievements were added but the game was also removed from the marketplace so only people who already had it could get them. Then it suddenly reappeared at the end of March, achievements and all. Huzzah! The best news is that all the achievements are possible to earn in the trial version without any money needing to be laid down. Double Huzzah!

One reason I was a bit loathed to feature Windows 8 titles for so long was due to the fact that they would be always filled by freebies such as the Microsoft titles Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Win 8), Microsoft Bingo (Win 10), Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8) and Microsoft Minesweeper (Win 8). Unfortunately, there's really no escaping that, as this table proves, with them taking spots fourth to eighth. However, to be fair, the Windows Phone tables have been heading in that direction for a while now, with the same titles and other freebies being constant fixtures, so we'll stick with them. I just wish more interesting, varied and regular releases came out for these platforms to keep these numbers a little more exciting and giving us a little more faith in Microsoft's intended support for them.

Games Completed
7,243 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,627 games between them (1,239 different games).

The "Chaos Rising" DLC continues to give Dead Rising 3 the most completions, though it drops by 200 completions from 400 to under 190 this week. As more people sneak their way through it, MGS: GZ leaps from fifth to second and 45 to 160 completions. The "Naval Strike" DLC for Battlefield 4 (Xbox One), which is currently only available to Premium members, gives the game a completion boost, putting it up into third with nearly 150 completions.

Not only does the game get a boost of new starters thanks to the sale, but the popular "Burial at Sea - Episode 2" DLC puts Bioshock Infinite into first place with over 310 completions, above previous top place holder, South Park.

Dark Souls II also sees a boost in completions as more people work their way through the challenges of Drangleic. It leaps up from tenth place with 40 completions all the way up to third with nearly 180 big ones.

The "Episode 2: A House Divided" continue mounting up for The Walking Dead: Season Two in first with over 430. The three achievements that "Title Update 1.5" brought with it for World Series of Poker: Full House Pro launches it into second place with over 100 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Not much to see here as, apart from recent deal title Mirror's Edge (WP) popping up in ninth place, the table pretty much mirrors last week's.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Like I mentioned before, all the Puzzle achievements can be popped in the trial and it seems like most TA'ers have caught onto that fact, with only 19 fewer completions than starters this week. Currently almost 82% of players have finished it. No other game manages more than 100 completions, with the Microsoft titles making their appearance, along with the likes of the easily completed Rayman Fiesta Run (Win 8), Disney Infinity: Toy Box (Win 8), Disney Infinity: Toy Box (Win 8), Fruit Ninja (Win 8), Shark Dash (Win 8), Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (Win 8) and Disney Fairies Hidden Treasures (Win 8).

Achievements Won
79,388 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 792,027 achievements online between them (51,549 different achievements).

The first time this table appears and its full of bloomin' Titanfall. not too surprising I suppose seeing as there haven't really been any huge releases since it came out and everyone and his dog is playing it. One "Naval Strike" achievement for Battlefield 4 manages to make seventh place amidst all the Titanism.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Seven of the ten "Burial at Sea - Episode 2" achievements make the table, with Dark Souls II and Battlefield 4 grabbing the bottom three. Those two Dark Souls II ones are pretty impressive as less than half of the game's players have actually managed to get them both.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Warface chews up the table as a good selection of the title's achievements seem attainable without purchasing extra content. World Series of Poker: Full House Pro manages to grab ninth place with one of its "Title Update 1.5" achievements.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Hexic and Angry Birds Rio share the table, with the former claiming six spots, including the top three.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Unsurprisingly, all five Puzzle achievements take the top spots in Windows 8, with Hexic and FIFA 14 claiming the bottom half.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Warface helps Shooter extend its lead on Genre, going from 8.5 million to over 9 million. The rest of the table plays out very similarly to last week as the numbers haven't seen a huge shift.

That's all for this week. Hope you enjoyed seeing Windows 8 for the first time. I'm not sure if it'll be a permanent fixture (it does mean more work for me and less time in the sauna, after all) so let me know if you feel it's worth it over the next few weeks.
