TA Gaming Stats - March 31st to April 6th 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period March 31st to April 6th 2014.

Welcome to another rundown of the Stats here on TA, this time from the first week of April. And no, the Win 8 tables from last week weren't a belated attempt at an April Fools joke; they're back again this week.

Games Started
30,056 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 42,947 games between them (1,914 different games).

The continued absence of new releases since Titanfall (Xbox One) and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Xbox One) a few weeks ago means the numbers continue to sink. The former only just makes it over the 1,000 starters mark in first, whereas the latter sees a big dip to under 500 in second. Down the rest of the table we see the same big releases since the One's launch, which seem fairly interchangeable with their places because the numbers are mostly pretty close together (ranging from 200 to 450 starters).

This month's "Games with Gold" freebie proves to be a very popular one as almost 7,000 players picked it up and got killing with fiber wire. This is the second title now, after Sleeping Dogs, where the game was offered for free soon after I decided to buy it on disc. I'm not complaining, because I get the game either way and I won't make too much of a loss selling back the disc version. Well, I'm not complaining now. I was complaining earlier, but I took that out on Flotsam the Statisticle. Fiber wire sure is a wonderful thing. Although the other Hitman titles, Hitman HD Pack and Hitman: Blood Money, were also offered with discounts, they didn't prove popular enough to make the table.

Elsewhere, recent releases South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360) and Dark Souls II take second and third place, slipping below 750 and 500 starters respectively, whilst recent sale offering BioShock Infinite (Xbox 360) continues to prove popular in fourth with almost 350 starters. They sit above a selection of recent releases and older "Games with Gold" offerings that are still being started, all with between roughly 180 and 330 measly starters.

The public https://www.trueachievements.com/Warface-Beta/achieveme....htm continues to pull in the punters with 2,200 starters. That's over 400 starters more than the rest of the table combined. With that freeness in first, as well as the previous "Games with Gold" freebie Dungeon Defenders taking second and free-to-play World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition in third, whilst new release Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition languishes in fourth with under 250 starters, I worry that people are valuing cost (or lack of it) over quality. Oh, right, Batman: AOBDE is a poorly received port of a handheld tie-in title. Forget what I said before, then. It sits just above last week's new release, Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Duels, in fifth with over 230 starters.

Free-to-play puzzler Hexic (WP) continues to maintain over 1,300 starters, almost 1,000 more than second place title Angry Birds Rio (WP), which was recently made free. Deal of the week title Halo: Spartan Assault (WP) gets a boost in numbers to over 200, putting it back on the table in third.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Like the Windows Phone table, Hexic (Win 8) proves the most popular title on Win 8, growing from under 300 to over 500 starters. Meanwhile, last week's most popular title, Puzzle by Nikoli X Sudoku (Win 8), slips down into fifth now that the buzz of its return to the marketplace has worn off. Landing in second place is the Win 8 version of popular WP free-to-play title Kingdoms & Lords (Win 8) with nearly 200 starters. As with the Windows Phone version, Halo: Spartan Assault (Win 8) gets a discount in Deal of the Week, putting it back on the table in fourth.

Games Completed
6,534 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 8,819 games between them (1,299 different games).

Now that most people have seemingly completed the "Chaos Rising" DLC, Dead Rising 3 slips from first place with almost 190 completions down to fourth with under 70. This allows MGS V: GZ to take the top spot, despite that also seeing a drop in completions. Titanfall appears for the first time since its release, in seventh with over 50 completions. Don't let that fool you that the game is in any way easy to complete, though. Currently only slightly over 100 players have finished the game, which represents just 0.3% of its over 35,000 players. The "Devastation" DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox One) gives it a kick up into ninth with under 50 completions.

The "Burial at Sea - Episode 2" see a dip for Bioshock Infinite, going from over 300 in first to under 180 in third, allowing South Park to retake the lead with 230 completions. With such a boost in players for Hitman: Absolution, the completions were always going to see a boost too. It pops up in fifth with over 80 completions.

"Episode 2: A House Divided" for The Walking Dead: Season Two continues to pull in the big numbers in first, with the rest of the table mostly looking very familiar. Luckily, next week a piece of DLC will shake things up a little. Although, to be fair, that's just the next episode for The Wolf Among Us, so it's not exactly thrilling.

Just as quickly as it appeared in second last week, World Series of Poker: Full House Pro disappears this week as, although the "Title Update 1.5" achievements are easy enough, the core game is still a grindy bugger.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

The freeness afforded it last week gives players the impetus to complete the grind of Angry Birds Rio, putting it onto the table in first with over 50 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Although it's slipped down the started table, Puzzle remains solidly in first on the completed table, even though the numbers have tumbled down from over 500 to under 100 completions. Despite the usual grind of free-to-play, over 10 determined Hexic fans managed to get the game into tenth place.

Achievements Won
72,160 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 765,867 achievements online between them (51,878 different achievements).

Last week the "Naval Strike" DLC achievements for Battlefield 4 (Xbox One) disrupted Titanfall's achievement clean sweep. This week it's the turn of "Devastation" for CoD: Ghosts, with its single Belly of the Beast achievement sitting in the belly of the table.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Absolution absolutely absorbs all slots on the table, including the Whoops achievement for achieving an accidental kill; something that just speaks to me for some reason.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

This week's Warface domination looks a lot like last week's Warface domination.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

With more people working their way through Hexic, it manages to clear off all the Angry Birds Rio achievements from last week and take the clean sweep.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Similarly, Hexic dominates, pushing Puzzle soundly off the table. It doesn't manage a clean sweep though, as Kingdoms and Lords grabs eighth and tenth places.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

With a dip in Shooter's nubmers seeing it drop from 9 million in first to 7.2 million in second, Action-Adventure steps up to take the lead thanks to the boost given it by Hitman, going from 6.5 to 7.5 million.

That's all for now chaps and chapesses. Next week will hopefully see some more interesting numbers as Titanfall for the 360 finally arrives, along with Kinect Sports Rivals, LEGO The Hobbit and "Episode 3: A Crooked Mile" for The Wolf Among Us.
