TA Gaming Stats - April 14th to 20th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period April 14th to April 20th 2014.

Welcome to the second of this week's stats articles, following the Easter break (pop over here for the first one). Here we take a look at the third week of April, which featured Trials, tribulations and big fat sales.

Games Started
37,755 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 54,682 games between them (1,891 different games).

After three fairly disappointing new releases in the previous week, this week sees Trials Fusion (Xbox One) lay a big fat skidmark over the table with over 6,200 starters. The previous new releases, Kinect Sports Rivals and LEGO The Hobbit (Xbox One), sink below the 500 starters mark in third and fourth, whilst Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut slips off the table entirely.

After blazing into first place upon release, Titanfall stumbles this week, losing two thirds of its starters to 1,000 and slipping from first to second, behind "Games with Gold" freebie Hitman: Absolution.

On the new release front, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil doesn't prove to be the most popular FIFA game with only just over 500 starters in fourth.

This week saw a massive sale across Games on Demand and Arcade with loads of titles and even more DLC discounted. Borderlands 2 proved the most popular sale title in sixth with 370 starters, more than recent releases like Dark Souls II and LEGO The Hobbit. Also on offer were LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes in seventh and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag in tenth.

Taking over from Hitman as the "Games with Gold" freebie this week was horror platformer Deadlight, which proved a popular choice, getting over 9,000 starters in first. It shadows new release Trials Fusion in second, which manages over 1,300 starters, over four times fewer than the One version.

Following its pattern of roughly halving its numbers every week, the Warface beta drops from nearly 1,200 to over 600 starters this week. Next week we'll see if the dropping of the beta from the title leads to a increase in numbers or if most people who were going to get it already had.

The big sale also takes many places on Arcade, with Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX appearing thanks to discounts and BattleBlock Theater still popular from the previous week's deal.

Finally, Doritos Crash Course 2 appears in tenth with nearly 150 starters, no doubt thanks to our news that the game was soon to be shut down. It's nice when we get advanced notice of these sorts of things and these numbers prove that people will get a game after hearing about its imminent delisting just to try and get it on their card and hopefully finished. Companies, take note.

Apart from the top two, Hexic (WP) and Angry Birds Rio (WP), and usual freebies Tetris Blitz (WP), Throne Together (WP) and Microsoft Mahjong (WP), an offer of free games for certain Nokia owners puts Shark Dash (WP), Brain Challenge HD (WP) and Let's Golf 2 (WP) on the table, despite those last two containing unobtainables. The deal of the week also puts Carcassonne (WP) into eighth with 70 starters.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

After appearing in the previous week, World Series of Poker: Full House Pro (Win 8) grows its numbers this week from 200 to 250 and jumps from third to first place, helped by Hexic (Win 8) and Kingdoms & Lords (Win 8) both seeing a dip in numbers.

New release Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) gets almost 180 starters in third and deal of the week title Shark Dash (Win 8) splashes into sixth with 80.

Top Windows 8 Games Started

Games Completed
7,533 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,118 games between them (1,229 different games).

With the release of the "Zomboss Down" DLC for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (Xbox One) comes the inevitable boost in completions. 200 TA'ers finished it off, putting it in first above LEGO The Hobbit (Xbox One), which gets 100 completions a week after release.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Although the DLC for Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare also puts the 360 version up the table, it only manages fourth place with its 120 completions, behind Dark Souls II, Hitman and South Park: The Stick of Truth (Xbox 360).

With a very easy completion (currently over 28% completion percentage), Deadlight was always going to storm the table after seeing such an uptake in numbers. It grabs over 1,000 completions, a number that is sure to stay high for the next few weeks. Of all the many discounted titles, only Pac-Man Championship Edition DX makes the table thanks to a ridonculously easy completion. It currently has the stately completion percentage of 62%. I can see why it was one of the more popular sale titles around these parts.

The Doritos Crash Course 2 completions are beginning to filter in as 50 players completed it this week in ninth. I'd expect the game to remain a staple of the table right up until its closure in October, unless people completely forget, in which case it could disappear for a while and then pop up again right before closure day as people panic to complete it.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Angry Birds Rio continues to soar at the top, whilst easy sale title Shark Dash dashes into second with 30 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Like the phone version, sale title Shark Dash jumps up the table, into fourth with over 30 completions, behind the usual suspects.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
74,489 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 862,422 achievements online between them (50,734 different achievements).

A single PvZ DLC achievement in ninth stops Trials Fusion from claiming the clean sweep and getting a perfect run.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

After dominating on release week, Titanfall slips below Hitman, which claims the top five and seventh spots.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

With its massive starter boost and easy completion, Deadlight cleans house, not giving Trials close to a chance.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Yawn.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Two Secrets and Treasures achievements make it into third and fourth, whilst Hexic still dominates.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Thanks to Deadlight, Action-Adventure extends its lead over Shooter again after nearly losing it in the previous week. However, after these stats were generated, the game was reclassified as a Platformer on the site so expect a shake up next week. Speaking of Platformer, that particular genre gets a big boost already thanks to the double dose of Trials, going from 600,000 in ninth to over 3 million in third.

That's all for now people.

Oh, and if you're wondering where my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, are (as well as my usual jollity) then...well..they're all...they're all...gone...cry
