Skullgirls: Encore Nearing Re-Release

By Rebecca Smith, 4 years ago
When Skullgirls is re-released onto the Xbox LIVE Games Store as Skullgirls: Encore, three new characters will be arriving with it or shortly after. The first is Squigly, who will be FREE to download for a limited period of time. The second is Big Band, the first male character to be released for the title. Ben Birdland was once one of the few non-corrupt police officers in the New Meridian force. After upsetting his colleagues, they beat him up badly and left him for dead. He was rebuilt by ASG Lab 8 and, now known as Big Band, he possesses a full ensemble of pneumatic weaponry. Here he is in action:

The third new character was originally announced as an April Fools Day joke. If you think that Fukua looks familiar, that is because she should. Built entirely from frames repurposed from Filia, the character does have a completely different rule set from her source. She will be FREE to download and will be released soon after Big Band.

One of Brain Drain's less-socially-acceptable hobbies is cloning, and often he forces the souls of dead warriors to inhabit these clones.

Fukua is the result of a fortunate - or unfortunate - Lab Zero accident: a union of two souls. One, a once-proud warrior known for her brute strength in close combat; the other a silent assassin who specialized in ranged weapons for her kills.

Together as one, Fukua possesses the best of both specialties...but relationships formed under intense circumstances often don't last.

The status of the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of the title is still unknown, but we appear to be heading closer to its re-release. Microsoft has released the Title Update for the game that is one part of the game's transition to its Encore version. Unfortunately, some users are reporting issues with playing the game until the second part of the game's transition is released to the public: the mandatory "Compatibility Pack" DLC. This DLC has been delayed due to the Easter holiday and a release date is still not known. We'll let you know when we hear anything new.
