According to Japan’s weekly magazine Famitsu, SEGA have confirmed the re-release of the Dreamcast’s popular hardcore arcade mech fighting game Virtual On Oratorio Tangram.
For those of you that have never heard of Virtual On, it was one of Japan’s hottest games. Set in a sci-fi future where virtuaroids are pitted against each other in lightning-quick mech battles using dual joysticks and armed with a variety of weapons, speed, strength, and combat techniques, each virtuaroid poses a different threat. You'll fight your way through a dozen of these to reach the final and most powerful enemy, Tangram. Virtual On was originally released as an arcade game where it is perhaps best played but was later released for the Dreamcast.
The Xbox 360 release will be the final Cyber Troopers: Virtual On Oratorio Tangram ver.5.66 released in 2000. The Xbox Live Arcade release, slated for April, has already been priced at 1200 Microsoft Points according to Famitsu.
I doubt it will stand up to today’s mech games but VOOT was unrivaled in its day making it perfect for some nostalgic gameplay.
