is one of many apps
that exist on the Xbox One.
Ahead of the summer season, a time when most people want to get fit, Microsoft has confirmed that two new yoga workouts will be introduced to the app on May 6th. "Yoga Inferno Workout 1" and "Yoga Inferno Workout 2" will complement the existing, extensive Xbox Fitness options that are available.
Jillian Michaels brings her expert input to the new workouts, and she has outlined her top tips for success, in the latest 'Trainer Spotlight':
Intensify your workout: If you are looking to shed those last stubborn pounds, you need to increase the intensity of your workouts. I want you breathless and your heart pumping. I want you really pushing yourself.
Change up your routine: Are you getting bored with that same old exercise routine? Chances are your body is, too. It’s probably time to switch things up if you want to continue seeing results.
Quality over quantity: Using proper form when working out is the key to getting the results you want and preventing injuries. Think quality over quantity. Take the time to perfect your form in order to get the results you want and keep your body healthy and strong.
Take time to recover: Exercise is the architect and recovery is the builder. Your muscles need adequate recovery time to build and get stronger, so make sure you get enough rest and don’t work out seven days a week. Take at least two days off.
Hydrate: Proper hydration is critical for exercise performance and speeds up metabolism.
Microsoft has taken the opportunity to sit her down for a chat about the important aspects of her approach to fitness, and how the Xbox One's technology brings her techniques to a wider audience:
Tell us about the history of your training technique – what makes it unique?
Having owned my own sports medicine facility, I had the chance to work with some incredibly knowledgeable people. I also grew up practicing martial arts. These experiences allowed me to fine-tune my methods and philosophies over the years to create high intensity circuit training. The goal of my training is to move between sets of different exercises with little or no rest in between. The idea is to keep your body moving at all times, alternating between muscle groups, and burning a ton of calories and fat in the process.
How does the technology of Xbox One enhance your programs?
I often stress the importance of form and technique. When training someone one-on-one, I’m often correcting their form. Giving the user the instant feedback on their form through Xbox One will allow them to correct it immediately and get the most out of their workout.
Are your programs on Xbox Fitness good for all fitness levels, men and women?
Absolutely. All my workouts are scaled for various fitness levels. My routines aren’t gender specific, exercise is exercise—the workout will be as challenging as you’re willing to exert yourself.
What results can users of your programs expect?
If you stick with it, you WILL see results. It comes down to your commitment and how much you’re willing to push yourself.
What excites you most about the technical advancements you've seen in fitness?
Put simply, technology provides more accurate and efficient tools to help people achieve their health and wellness goals.
What are the benefits of implementing yoga alongside high-intensity workouts in one’s fitness regime?
Yoga is a fantastic way to mix up your training regimen by continuing to utilize body weight training, but changing up modalities. Yoga incorporates strength, flexibility, balance and core strength to help balance and round out your exercise regimen.
Tell us about your yoga program. What makes it unique?
My yoga program is designed to be more metabolic than a traditional yoga practice. While yoga is a fantastic way to create strength and flexibility, it hasn't been extremely effective for weight loss until now as it doesn't elevate heart rate significantly. My yoga workouts have taken all the signature yoga poses and incorporated their fitness benefits, with a twist. By adding HIIT training and weight training to the practice, I am able to burn significant calories and fat during the workouts by increasing the intensity and blending metabolic conditioning with traditional yoga.
Prepare to burn some calories when the new workouts are released next month.
