At the start of April, we revealed that Gamespy Technology, a service that provided several multiplayer services like matchmaking, were closing down their hosting services on May 31st, 2014
. While relatively few Xbox 360 titles were likely to be affected, we promised that we would bring updates as soon as we heard anything new. Today, Rockstar Games has issued a statement regarding their titles and how they would be affected by the server closure.
First, we'll start with the good news. Grand Theft Auto V
and Max Payne 3
will be completely unaffected by the GameSpy closures. Their online play, Social Club features and multiplayer leaderboards will all remain intact.
Now for the so-so news. The online multiplayer servers and in-game leaderboards will remain online for Red Dead Redemption
, Grand Theft Auto IV
and Grand Theft Auto IV (PC)
. However, all three titles will lose their Social Club website stat tracking and leaderboards and, in the case of Red Dead
, will also lose the in-game Social Club services. Despite this, all of the achievements in all three titles will remain obtainable after May 31st.
Finally, we end with the bad news. As well as losing its Social Club website features and account linking, Midnight Club: Los Angeles
will also lose its in-game Rate My Ride features and Driving Test unlocks. This means that these two achievements will become discontinued on May 31st:
The online multiplayer servers will remain online for Midnight Club
