Sunset Overdrive Details Announced

By Megan Walton, 2 years ago
Welcome to the world of Sunset City. What was once a nice place to chill out with friends and have a drink has now been overrun with zombies mutants. Thanks to a disaster at Fizzco's factory, their energy drink, "Overcharge Delirium XG", has infected all the launch party members and it is now your job to tackle the various shapes and sizes of zombies you will come across during your journey.

If you are fed up with fighting on desolate wastelands, then this game will be a refreshing change for you. Sunset Overdrive introduces you to bright, exciting levels, in which you can run, jump, grind, zip-line, wall-run, and bounce around to your hearts desire. Will you find the best ways to use the environment to your advantage?
SO

Lead designers Marcus Smith and Drew Murray have played around with the design of the game a lot. The game started off with oil slicks and mattresses scattered about the levels for players to bounce around even more, but these were taken out. One thing they did decide on though is to have no ladders whatsoever in the game. Instead, we have vault-able fences and grind-able power lines to help you get around.
SO

To create the "Awesomepocolypse" feel for the game, the designers have borrowed elements from games such as Prince of Persia, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, and Jet Set Radio. The whole world is your playground, and the aim of the game is motion shots. By this, we mean you get more points by shooting and killing enemies whilst you are maintaining movement; the more you can take out, the better.
SO

There is a wide range of character customisations available for you, from individual body part details to items of clothing. You have an "Amps" system you can use to craft weapons, and you can use recipes scattered about the levels to craft different weapons. Upgrades are done by combining these "Amps" with "Overcharge" cans, but there are also stat buffs to be collected as well.
SO

Being compared to Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive fires hoards of enemies at you whilst you try to escape their clutches. Your end goal is to defeat Fizzco and destroy the company, but there will be plenty to entertain you along the way. There are side missions galore, given to you by everyone from comic book collectors to fortune tellers.

The game is open world, and it looks like there will be plenty for players to explore as they fight their way through the zombie masses. This definitely looks like a different kind of zombie game, and we'll be bringing you more updates as we get them before the release for Xbox One later this year.
