GameSpy Technology, a company that provides multiplayer services like matchmaking and stat tracking, will be closing down their hosting services on May 31st, 2014
. An unknown number of titles were to be affected by this closure and we promised to update you as we heard more details from developers and publishers about the future of their titles. Following on from the statement issued by Rockstar
, EA and NetherRealm have now issued statements of their own regarding their titles that may have been affected by the move.
We'll start with NetherRealm. Injustice: Gods Among Us
did not use GameSpy services so was unaffected by the news anyway. Now, Ed Boon has confirmed via Twitter
that Mortal Kombat
will also be unaffected and will "continue to run online" after May 31st.
EA has also issued a statement and a list of server closures for some of their PC titles. That list can be found here
if you are interested. However, all of the online Xbox 360 titles developed and/or published by EA will remain online
. Not a single Xbox 360 game will be affected by the GameSpy closure. If you need to be 100% sure whether your favourite Xbox 360 title is published by EA, you can find a list of all of their games here
. Remember that if a game's online servers were already closed prior to this announcement, they will remain closed and offline.
More titles could be affected by the closure of GameSpy and we will be sure to bring you any more updates as we hear them!
