Codemasters has today released some Operation Flashpoint: Red River
info and screenshots. This is the next chapter and is set to "deliver an authentic and intensely personal US Marine Corps infantryman experience." Red River
is set to play out in the country of Tajikistan, specifically along the Vakhsh River.
Geography lesson over, back to the battlefield. Red River
will be set in the near future using "contemporary geopolitical themes". I believe this means that the Chinese will not like you. In fact you will be facing off against a new counter-insurgency combat and taking on the Chinese PLA.
From Codemasters' Creative Director, Sion Lenton, about the game:
“Operation Flashpoint: Red River is being built around four player co-op online play, complete with a strong narrative, new enemies and combat scenarios to deliver gameplay that immerses players in the reality of war like never before. The new setting of Tajikistan is a diverse and exciting backdrop for the wide range of military challenges the US Marines face around the world in real life. We’re excited to push the series in new directions while staying true to the core tactical combat that is the hallmark of Operation Flashpoint."
Codemasters is not only bringing you four player online co-op but customizable classes (think Modern Warfare
), air support options (think Modern Warfare 2
) as well as trying to improve on the squad based AI from Dragon Rising
. Co-op modes include escort missions, taking cover from large enemy numbers, and various other tactical situations.
This announcement also came with some art!
Operation Flashpoint: Red River arrives in 2011.
