We've finally got some more information to share with you about Toxic Games' new puzzler Q.U.B.E. Director's Cut
. This is an improvement on the original Q.U.B.E.
game for Steam, with a new story and more compelling narrative (suggested from player feedback). Q.U.B.E. Directors Cut
sees the player solve cubed puzzles using special gloves, including physics-based puzzles, platform based puzzles, and 3D trials.
Toxic Games has brought in writer Rob Yescombe, known for Crysis
amongst others, to help reboot the narrative. He talks briefly about what the game is about at its heart:
The Director’s Cut is a single-location thriller. It’s about figuring out what the Qube is, and why you’re inside it. You’re told you are an astronaut inside some kind of alien structure hurtling towards Earth, but it’s also about something deeper than that
Are you intrigued yet? How about some top notch actors to do the voicing? Rachel Robinson (Fang from Final Fantasy XIII
) and Rupert Evans (from TV drama World Without End
) are the stars, and Robinson's part was written specifically for her. She talks about the intensity and pressure of this voice acting:
The challenge with acting is to find a way to bring truth into the performance. So having something written specially for you makes that a lot easier. But because of that, there are aspects of this story that are very personal to me - I mean really uncommonly personal - so the process was pretty intense
With this news comes a short trailer for the game, showing the astronaut tackling one of the many puzzles the players will be coming across with the special gloves.
Q.U.B.E. Directors Cut
will be making its appearance on the Xbox One later this year.
