, the successful spin-off of the Forza Motorsport
franchise, shall be getting a sequel, IGN revealed today
The development of the Xbox One version will mainly be handled by Playground Games, developers of the original Forza Horizon
; however, they will also be working closely, both in terms of personnel and technology, with the main series developers, Turn 10, whose prior experience with the Xbox One with Forza Motorsport 5
will undoubtedly be of great benefit, especially considering that the Xbox One version shall be using the same game engine as Forza Motorsport 5
The Xbox 360 version of Horizon 2
is being developed separately by the folks over at Sumo Digital, an experienced studio with ex-Bizarre Creations (Project Gotham Racing, Blur
) and Black Rock Studio (Pure, Split/Second
) employees there. They also have plenty of racing game pedigree themselves, having worked on TOCA
and Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
. This version shall be using the game engine from the original Horizon
There shall also be a change of scenery in Horizon 2
. Whereas the original was set in the state of Colorado, the sequel shall be located in southern Europe. What hasn't changed is the big role that music plays in the Horizon
series. Much like the first, expect a variety of musical choices to be on offer; perhaps even more, considering the sequel takes place around a music festival.
Whilst a definitive release date has not been stated, Forza Horizon 2
is due to release on Xbox 360 and Xbox One this autumn/fall.
