TA Gaming Stats - May 26th to June 1st 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period May 26th to June 1st 2014.

Welcome to the second part of this week's stats double bill (first part here), a nice relaxing, shenanigan-free look at the numbers after the recent craziness. The Statisticles are currently giving me a nice foot rub whilst we listen to classical music and examine the tables.

Games Started
41,107 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 54,584 games between them (1,928 different games).

Big numbers! Taking the second biggest set of numbers since the console's launch, below Titanfall (Xbox One)'s 21,000 back in March, Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) storms into the chart with over 17,000 starters, making the rest of the table look very small indeed, including last week's new release, Wolfenstein: The New Order (Xbox One), which drops from 6,000 to under 1,300 starters in second. The other new release of the week, Worms Battlegrounds, takes third place with only less than 600 starters. The low numbers may be due to the game only being available digitally in many regions. Or it may just be because everyone is playing Watch_Dogs. Elsewhere, Powerstar Golf jumps up into fifth place with 270 starters thanks to the complete loss of any cost as the game went free-to-play or free-to-try or whatever it is now.

Although it doesn't do anywhere near as well as the One version, the 360 version of Watch_Dogs still manages to do that rare thing and beat the "Games with Gold" title to first place. It pushes up over 3,300 starters, less than a fifth of the One version, but over 1,000 starters more than freebie Saints Row: The Third in second with 2,000 starters. For free for only one day of these stats, new "Games with Gold" title Dark Souls still manages to leap up the table, grabbing over 1,300 starters to put it in third.

Yet again, with no new releases and nothing much to speak of on sale, the Arcade table continues to languish in familiarity, with Dust: An Elysian Tail, Deadlight and Warface leading the way above other recent freebies, free-to-play titles and recent releases.

Apart from a couple of anomalies, this is also very similar to last week, with Temple Run 2 (WP) and Wordament Snap Attack (WP) continuing to lead. This week's deal title, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP), noms up the table into fourth place with over 90 starters, presumable because of the very easy completion. The previous week's deal title, Final Fantasy (WP), pops up in eighth with nearly 50 starters having been absent on last week's table.

After climbing its way up the table for a few weeks, Microsoft Treasure Hunt (Win 8) remains on top despite losing a bunch of numbers this week, dropping from 480 to around 270 starters. Wordament Snap Attack (Win 8) takes a similar hit, dropping from 210 to under 100, but retains its second place position. Like the WP version, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (Win 8) appears in fifth with over 50 starters thanks to the sale.

Games Completed
8,396 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,328 games between them (1,301 different games).

After hitting the top on its release week, Wolfenstein continues to rule in completions, growing from 430 to 630 this week. The "Morituri" DLC for Ryse: Son of Rome puts the game up into second place with almost 200 completions. When a game is started by like a bajillion people, only a very small percentage have to finish it to put it on the table. And that's exactly what happens here with Watch_Dogs, which currently only has a 1.25% completion percentage, but 40 of those were in the first week and that's enough to put the game in ninth place.

The 360 completions for Wolfenstein also grow, this time going from 60 to over 110. That's enough to see the game go from fifth to first on the table, above Saints Row, which also saw a rise from 70 to 100 and fourth to second place.

Last week it was The Walking Dead: Season Two that topped the table with its new episode. This week its the turn of The Wolf Among Us to pull a similar trick. Interestingly enough, the latter gets more completions this week at over 1,600 than the former did last week at under 1,400. Looking at it now, Wolf also currently has more starters than TWD, with over 20,200 compared to under 14,500. I would have thought it would be the other way around.

The easy completions for Temple Run continue to pour in, keeping the game in first and around the 100 completion mark. Also an easy completion, deal title Pac-Man appears in second with 50 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

It's the same old story on W8 apart from the inclusion of Pac-Man here as well, in fourth with 25 completions. The little yellow so and so gets everywhere.

Achievements Won
76,574 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 826,966 achievements online between them (51,984 different achievements).

With so many big numbers, Watch_Dogs easily takes the clean sweep, denying Wolfenstein any places. Here we get a few early story progression achievements, but mostly cumulative stuff for doing certain actions like tagging enemies, taking down vehicles, shooting tires and stopping citizens from dobbing you in.

It's not quite the same story on the 360 as Watch_Dogs struggles to control the table, despite taking the top spot. It also appears in third and eighth, but the table belongs to Saints Row, apart from a solitary Dark Souls achievement slipping into ninth.

The top seven is, of course, taken by Wolf Among Us, with last week's dominator left to fill the bottom three. Comparing last week's table to this week's, I've just realised something: Wolf Among Us episodes each have seven achievements, whereas Walking Dead episodes each have eight. I wonder why that is.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Temple Run gets a clean run from first to seventh place, leaving Snap Attack to snap up the last three spots.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Again Snap Attack loses a foothold, only taking the bottom four spots and allowing Treasure Hunt to loot the top six.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

After briefly claiming the top spot last week, Shooter slips back down to second and makes way for a barn-storming increase from Action-Adventure, thanks to Watch_Dogs. It almost doubles in numbers from 7 million to over 12 million, whereas Shooter slips from 7.7 to around 6 million. Action also retakes third place from Role-Playing, but not by much. I have a feeling Dark Souls will put an end to that next week. Thanks to the double TellTale whammy over two weeks, Adventure takes a stride up from ninth to sixth, going from 470,000 to 820,000.

That's all for this week's leisurely Stats double dip. I hope you found your journey relaxing. Next week we'll see if Watch_Dogs retains a decent tale or sees a significant drop off, along with the release of Murdered Soul Suspect.
