Along with yesterday's two big announcements (Homefront
), NetherRealm and Warner Bros decided that it would also be a good time to make a killer reveal of their own.Mortal Kombat X
, the anticipated sequel to 2011's popular series reboot, Mortal Kombat
, will be coming to old and new generation consoles next year. Not much is yet known on what new features or changes will be coming to this latest iteration of the long-running series, apart from the fact that it offers "new gameplay" and a new graphics engine. That new gameplay involves a persistent online contest as players compete in a global tournament and the ability to choose from variations of individual characters, allowing for adjustable fighting styles.
To pump up excitement for the title, a trailer has also been released showcasing two classic characters battling it out to a new track by rapper Wiz Khalifa.
Series progenitor and NetherRealm Creative Director, Ed Boon, had the following to say about the new title:
Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilise the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet. The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.Mortal Kombat X
will be making its way to Xbox 360 and Xbox One some time in 2015.
