TA Gaming Stats - June 2nd to 8th 2014

This report is for the period June 2nd to June 8th 2014

Hello and welcome to the Stats for the first full week of June here on TA. It's hotting up here in the TA office and the heat, combined with all the excitement surrounding E3, has got myself and my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, all hot and bothered. It's times like these when I wish we weren't all covered in fur.

Games Started
39,182 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 58,272 games between them (1,929 different games).

Free wins again as the inaugural titles on the Xbox One version of "Games with Gold", Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Xbox One) and Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox One), easily take the lead with 9,000 and 7,500 starters respectively. Although those numbers don't rival last week's big new release, Watch_Dogs (Xbox One), which garnered 17,200 starters, they do beat the previous new release, Wolfenstein: The New Order (Xbox One), which hit 6,000. Free is free, I guess, and as long as these programs are running, free will dominate the tables. Not that I'm complaining. I'm grabbing them all too.

Speaking of those recent releases, Watch_Dogs sees a massive drop-off in numbers, slipping by over 15,000 starters to 2,000 in third, whilst Wolfenstein slides from its nearly 1,300 last week to 730 in fifth this week. Sandwiched between them is this week's new release, Murdered: Soul Suspect (Xbox One), which enters the chart in fourth with 1,400 starters. Sure, it passes the 1,000 mark, but the numbers aren't that great.

Finally, Crimson Dragon swoops into ninth place with 180 starters thanks to being half-price throughout June alongside "Games with Gold".

The 360 "Games with Gold" title, Dark Souls, pulls in a whopping nearly 8,000 starters. I may have expected more, but the game isn't for everyone and it has been on sale a few times before. Previous freebie Saints Row: The Third holds in strong in third with almost 850 starters, above its successor, Saints Row IV, with 500 starters. The later game appears thanks to his week's sale lending it a decent discount. The sale also gives Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier its ninth place position with 160 starters.

New release Murdered: Soul Suspect takes just over 480 starters, which is only enough to secure fifth place, whilst last week's big release, Watch_Dogs, slips from first with 3,300 starters to second with 870.

Oh look, another table with freeness at the top. Thanks to an game-expanding update, paid content discount and double XP event, free-to-play shooter Warface gets a boost in starters from 300 to almost 450, pushing the game from third to first. It sits above sale titles Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon in second, Far Cry Classic in fifth and Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao in seventh, with recent "Games with Gold" freebies still happily settled throughout the table.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Free title Temple Run 2 (WP) continues its run at the top, maintaining almost 200 starters after recently being made available to more phone models. Deal of the week title ilomilo (WP) jumps into second with 160 starters, with last week's deal title, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX (WP), slipping from fourth to sixth.

And it's five for five as every single Games Started table is headed up by a free game. On W8 that game is Microsoft Treasure Hunt (Win 8), which maintains first place, despite dropping from 270 to 170 starters. Then again, the entire table apart from the bottom two are free, and those two are on sale. Following a soft release, Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) is now available everywhere, putting it in second with 133 starters.

Games Completed
7,383 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,703 games between them (1,261 different games).

With its massive boost in starters and its easy completion (currently 17% of players have completed it - a number that was even higher before the boost), Max easily claims the top spot with over 510 completions, above last week's number one, Wolfenstein. Watch_Dogs makes a climb up the table, going from 40 to 240 completions in only its second week. I hear if it wasn't for the drinking games, that number could've been a lot higher. Another seemingly easy game (26.46% completion percentage), Murdered jumps straight into fifth place in its debut week with 200 completions.

The new "Invasion" DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts gives it sixth place position with 155 completions

On the 360, the CoD: Ghosts DLC has a greater impact, putting it in first place by a long way with its 180 completions, more than people managed on the One. Murdered also shows up in third with 75 completions, whilst the "Ultra" expansion/re-release for Super Street Fighter IV puts the game in eighth with 45 completions thanks to a set of relatively easy achievements.

The recent new episodes for both The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two keep them at the top of the table, with Wolf maintaining the lead, despite the gap between the two narrowing significantly from 870 to under 200 completions. All of that extra XP helped almost 30 people complete the grind-fest of Warface, putting it in tenth.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

The completions for Pac-Man increase this week from 50 to 65, putting the game from second to first, above Temple Run this week, which slips from 100 to under 65 completions. Deal title ilomilo was also quite an easy one (42% completion percentage) and appears in fifth with 20 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Apart from the usual junk, deal title Pac-Man and new release Secrets and Treasure both make the table in third and seventh.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
75,449 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 876,610 achievements online between them (51,492 different achievements).

Max dominates the table with eight spots, including the top two. Halo: SA manages to claim third and tenth with the two easiest achievements in the game. After easily clean-sweeping last week, Watch_Dogs doesn't even get a look in.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

As is often the case when Dark Souls pops up on the table, the first few achievements turn up here, but not much else, as many players get stuck after making it through the beginning. With so many players though, Ring the Bell does also make the cut in ninth. The rest of the table is taken up with the DLC achievements for CoD: Ghosts and a single Saints Row: The Third achievement at the bottom.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Wolf Among Us again manages to maintain the top eight with all of its new episode achievements. However, instead of Walking Dead, it's Warface and Far Cry 3: BD which claim ninth and tenth.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Although Temple Run and Wordament Snap Attack still mostly dominate, ilomilo does manage to slip in one achievement right in the middle.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Two Secrets and Treasures achievements get sandwiched between Treasure Hunt's usual top table domination in third and fourth. That's a lot of treasure being unearthed.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Despite the slip in Watch_Dogs numbers enough people are still playing it to keep Action-Adventure afloat, as well as getting a small boost from Murdered. With the boost given to it by Max, Platformer makes a massive leap from eighth to third, going from 765,000 to over 3.3 million. Similarly, Action gets a boost thanks to Halo, going from 2.4 million to 3.3 million, although with Platformer's much bigger boost, that actually means it slips from third to fourth.

That's all for this week's stats. Next week we'll see if any smaller releases such as 1001 Spikes, Blood of the Werewolf and Enemy Front can make any sort of dent on the numbers. With everyone glued to E3 and so much freeness around, I think not.
