Assassin's Creed Unity Detailed

By Rebecca Smith, 2 years ago
The year is 1789. The destination is Paris, a city that is now plagued by terror and chaos due to the brutality of the French Revolution. Rivers of red run across the cobblestones as the poor take on the oppression of the rich aristocracy. Arno Dorian has joined the Assassins after he is driven by guilt over his part in the death of his adoptive father. In his journey to become a Master Assassin, Arno must expose the radical branch of Templars that are behind the Revolution. His journey will take him through several key moments in the Revolution, from the storming of the Bastille to the execution of King Louis XVI. You will encounter many renowned historical figures, such as Marquis de Sade, Louis XVI, Napoléon, Robespierre and Mirabeau.
Vista Notre Dame

Assassin's Creed Unity is powered by a new game engine: the Anvil Engine. This has allowed the development team to introduce new parkour, combat and stealth mechanics. A new stealth mode can be activated at the press of a button. At this point, the player makes less noise and is less likely to be detected for all of his actions. A new cover system allows players to use different "architectural elements present in the game to hide". Bigger crowds allow for Arno to disappear easily.
Ballroom Stealth

Skill, timing and flow is now taken into account while fighting. Players can now deal with more than one enemy at once by using moves like moving away from one to get closer to another. Attacking, dodging and parrying are all important as enemies no longer wait in line to be attacked. There will be several different enemies that all have their own strengths and weaknesses, so combat will be harder than in previous titles. Retreating is now a viable strategy.
Combat Sword

Free-running is now advertised as "seamless". Go anywhere you want at anytime. You can now parkour up and down any side of a building to make navigation more efficient. You also don't need to use a haystack to reach the ground from a vantage point anymore -- you can choose you path down. Ubisoft Montreal is trying not to restrict Arno to the limited number of predefined paths that the developers had created.
Assassinating Executioner

Players will be able to create their own Master Assassin. As well as choosing your weapons, outfits and accessories from a more diverse arsenal, players can also select specialized skills from a new skill tree. The tree will have separate Stealth, Fighting and Navigation categories that offer hundreds of potential combinations.
Paris Rooftop

The new game engine allows Paris to spring to life in a way that has not been seen previously in an Assassin's Creed title. Building interiors have more detail. More activities and side missions will be on offer, such as Ancestral Missions, Treasure Hunts, Murder Mysteries and Contracts. You can blend in with crowds of up to 5,000 AI characters, or you can seek solitude in secret underground catacombs and sewers.
Crowd Combat

Of course, the game will also include four-player co-op opportunites as Arno fulfils his obligations to the Assassins. Heists and "narrative driven missions" will be on offer. You may need to sabotage an execution, protect an emperor or assassinate a Templar. Communication, co-ordination and a diverse skill set will be the key to success. Players will also be able to share the rewards from these missions. About a third of the game can be experienced in these shared missions, but they can also be performed solo if you wish.
Assassins United
