Square Enix announced today a new third person shooter titled Gun Loco
. This new title will be set on a remote prison planet that is inhabited with the solar system's craziest criminals, or as we'd like to affectionately call them Locos. These Loco-types are left behind on this unnamed prison planet, completely forgotten by civilized, non-Loco, society with no walls and the only rule is there are no rules (see: anarchy). Oh yes, the planet is populated with weapons. Weapons that shoot projectiles at high speeds that can do enormous damage. We shall call these weapons 'Guns'. Gun Loco
will be a game focused on factions fighting for "survival, power, and ultimately escape." Throughout your stay on Prison Planet X you will battle through "varied climate zones and numerous stylised maps," including the ruins of previous civilizations that inhabited various regions of the planet.
According to Square Enix:
Featuring unique third-person, sprint-action shooter gameplay, players can assume the roles of a variety of unique and memorable characters in a game that redefines the run-and-gun shooter. While pursuing and being pursued by their opponents, players must make use of the sprint-action play by running, jumping, ducking and vaulting, using the environments to their advantage. With a powerful arsenal of weapons at their disposal, each character comes complete with their own unique kill move, coupled with a mocking take-down taunt to ridicule their victims.
I guess by unique they forget Modern Warfare's liberal use of sprinting and fast paced running.
The game will feature a comic book style visual direction created by toy designer Kenny Wong. Mr. Wong has been hands on with designing each and every character. Each caricature found in the game was actually created before hand as a real, poseable action figure. One can only assume these action figures will make it to the market for consumers to purchase.
Gun Loco will host 12-player multiplayer matches across unspecific game modes. I bet death match is one of them. Just a hunch.
Thanks to IncGamers for the screens.
Square Enix says it will be out by 2011.
