This May, a Kickstarter campaign
was launched by living legend LeVar Burton to bring his popular Reading Rainbow
series onto the web and into classrooms to help encourage literacy. Originally a PBS TV series that ran between 1983 and 2006 with Burton as host, the concept was relaunched in 2012 as an educational tablet app including interactive books and video "field trips". It's this format that Burton wants to bring to families and schools where tablets are not readily available.

Proving a hugely popular campaign, the Kickstarter surpassed its goal five-fold, hitting over $5 million dollars by the time the funding period ended. This meant that it hit its stretch goal to bring Reading Rainbow
to "consoles". Whether this will be in the form of a game or an app is currently unknown, but we'll be bringing more news on the Reading Rainbow
story as we hear more.
