Gearbox Announces Battleborn

By Rebecca Smith, 4 years ago may well be in progress, but creators Gearbox are only taking on an advisory role as 2K Australia takes on the lion's share of development. This is because they have a new project. Battleborn is a new IP that is being developed for the Xbox One.

Battleborn is a shooter that borrows elements from Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs). The five-player co-op campaign throws players into a dying universe where they must battle to save the last star and "drive back an unstoppable menace". There will be a choice of many different heroes, each of which has wildly different skills and characteristics. The announcement trailer below showcases just a few of these characters; there's the elven archeress with impressive parkour skills and the ability to rain arrows upon her opponents. There's the robotic gentleman who can turn invisible and whose cane doubles up as a rather powerful rifle. The flying sorceress can fling multiple swords at hordes of approaching enemies. The samurai swordsman can dual wield red-bladed weapons that cut through enemies like butter. Finally, there's the heavy gunner that looks like he stepped out of Team Fortress 2.

Game Informer managed to get themselves yet another exclusive cover reveal, but they brought along a few more details too. Players will be able to progress up to level 20 along a streamlined skill tree that caters for a variety of play styles. As well as the co-op campaign, there will be a variety of multiplayer modes, such as Incursion that pits two teams of five players against each other. The magazine will have more details to come throughout the month.

Look out for this title when it launches next year.
