Splash Damage published their latest developer diary on the S.M.A.R.T. game engine they have developed for their new game Brink
. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain. The engine obivously has its roots in Mirror's Edge
and the parkour free-style running that can be surprisingly fun to use when pulled off correctly.
The idea behind S.M.A.R.T. is that you will be able to pull off complex moves across complex terrain with minimum input from you. Splash Damage wants you navigating across terrains that are impossible to cross from a conventional movement standpoint.
