Hothead Games originally announced DeathSpank
as an episodic series, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to hear that the next game in the series has just been announced and primed for release next month.DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue
is set to hit XBLA on September 22nd, and just like the first game, it'll set you back 1200 MSP.
Developed in tandem with the first game, Throngs of Virtue will add more variety in the game's quests, adds more bosses and a new playable co-op character: the "ninja-tastic Kung Fu" master Steve (but still offline-only co-op, sadly). Hothead have announced that the game will be 50% longer than the first, and feature a wider array of settings, including the North Pole! The plot for the game was summed up hilariously in the press release for the game:
A long time ago, nine mystical thongs were planned to bring balance and harmony to the universe, but when marketing got in the way, only six thongs were produced, and the result was disastrous. Granting great power to those who wear them, the thongs corrupted all those they touched—except DeathSpank. DeathSpank must find all six thongs and destroy them once and for all.
The sequel is said to be more focused on adventures and puzzle questing, but still retains the same hack and slash elements. But who cares about that, the new game also introduces bazookas, machine guns and rifles!
The story of the second carries on from the first, but Hothead have said that progress won't be carried over at all, and that new players won't miss out on anything by just playing the second - excluding a handful of references.
