SMITE Announced for Xbox One

During Microsoft's Gamescom press conference, Hi-Rez Studios announced that the acclaimed free-to-play Action MOBA, SMITE, will be coming soon to the Xbox One. The move to the console is thanks to the ID@Xbox self-publishing program.

SMITE is a third-person Action MOBA that is themed around gods of mythology, such as Hercules, Poseidon, and Thor, to name a few. This "Battleground of the Gods" pits player versus player in an all-out battle for dominance, that as the trailer points out itself, "isn't your typical MOBA."

SMITE has established itself as one of the top games in its genre, with over five million players on PC. However, Hi-Rez Studios' Chief Operating Officer, Todd Harris, sees its potential on a console format as well:

SMITE's high-action gameplay makes it unique among leading MOBAs in that it is incredibly fun and engaging to play on a console controller. The Xbox One provides the perfect platform for us to bring the Battleground of the Gods to console gamers around the world.
SMITE is scheduled to release on the Xbox One sometime in 2015.
