TA Gaming Stats - August 11th to 17th 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period August 11th to August 17th 2014.

Welcome to this week's stats as the new releases continue to trickle in. Defying my expectations from last week, it turns out a bunch of you did want to be friends with my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, and dutifully added them. In fact, at this rate, their friend count may even overtake mine, and we can't have that. Time for a cull. A friend feed cull, not a Statisticles cull. Although, I suppose that's always an option too.

Games Started
37,089 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 56,735 games between them (2,027 different games).

In an unexpected twist, a game manages to actually outdo the "Games with Gold" freebies this month, with https://www.trueachievements.com/Pinball-FX2-Xbox-One/a....htm taking almost 4,900 starters. Oh, wait, it's also free. That explains it then. Out of the two "Games with Gold" offerings, Crimson Dragon continues to do well, pulling in over 2,300 starters in second, whilst Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut doesn't fare so well as it slips all the way down to seventh with under 1,000 starters.

The reason for the split is thanks to the launching of the EA Access program, which currently includes access to https://www.trueachievements.com/Peggle-2-Xbox-One/achi....htm, Battlefield 4 (Xbox One), Madden NFL 25 (Xbox One) and FIFA 14 (Xbox One). No prizes for guessing which four games fill up spots three to six on the table with between 980 and 1,200 starters.

Thanks to this week's sales, the discounted Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Xbox One) and Titanfall (Xbox One), both get a boost in numbers, putting them at eighth and ninth with around 560 starters each.

This week saw the changeover on the 360 of "Games with Gold" titles from Motocross Madness to Dishonored. This gives the latter a dominant 3,400 starter lead on the retail chart, more than ten times the amount of new release Risen 3: Titan Lords, which only manages 320 starters in second. The original Risen also pops up in tenth place with 150 starters thanks to being offered as part of the week's sales. Fight Night Champion is the most popular discounted title though, at seventh with almost 180 starters. Meanwhile, previous sales offerings Call of Duty: Ghosts and Resident Evil 4 HD (Xbox 360) still hang around, above recent release Sacred 3, which slides from second to ninth with 150 starters.

On offer for over half the period, Motocross Madness manages to pull in almost the same amounts of starters as Dishonored, slipping by over half from 7,000 to under 3,400 starters. It still leads over recent freebies and popular titles (mostly free-to-play), whilst none of this week's sales titles make the table.

Last week we celebrated the launch of a new Windows Phone title, the first in a loooooong time, with Hungry Shark Evolution (WP). This week the excitement continues as TWO!! new games are released in the forms of Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) and Assassin's Creed Pirates (WP). That gives us a nice break from the norm on the table as all three games take the top spots. Hungry Shark continues to be the most popular with over 530 starters, whilst Tentacles takes second with 300 and AC: Pirates nabs third with 170. Bear in mind that the first two titles are free, which will explain their position above Pirates, whilst Tentacles was only launched in Denmark this week, so expect its numbers to grow next week as it was released everywhere else. Elsewhere, despite being on sale multiple times before recently, Mush (WP) still lures in over 100 new starters in fourth.

With the W8 version of the game released a week after the WP version, Hungry Shark Evolution (Win 8) shows up here now, claiming first with 245 starters and giving us something else to look at besides Microsoft [Insert Word Here].

Unfortunately, despite being released at the same time as the WP version, Assassin's Creed Pirates (WP) Forum doesn't appear here thanks to the achievements not having been made live yet. Bad times.

Games Completed
7,317 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,963 games between them (1,326 different games).

Despite dropping down the started table, Strike Suit Zero continues to lead here, although by only two completions. Recent DLC for both CoD: Ghosts and Titanfall keep them high in the table in third and fourth, whilst the difficult to complete Crimson Dragon manages to creep up a space from eighth to seventh as it edges over 100 completions this week.

Although it gets a similar amount of completions on the 360, CoD: Ghosts is easily the most completed game again with almost 180 completions, whilst the rest of the table is made up of most of the same titles as last week, slightly shuffled. One new addition is Diablo III, which claims eighth place with over 40 completions, no doubt thanks to people wrapping it up in anticipation of the the release of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

The decline in numbers for The Walking Dead: Season Two since the release of "Episode 4: Amid the Ruins" tails of this week, only dropping by 200 completions to almost 420. After appearing last week in third with over 100 completions, Motocross Madness slips down a place this week to under 90. In the final rush to complete the game before the server closure, over 30 people managed to complete the game, putting it in tenth.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Shark Dash (WP) maintains its lead, going from 40 to almost 60 completions, above the usual suspects, Temple Run 2 (WP) and Angry Birds Rio (WP), and recent sales titles, Rabbids Big Bang (WP) and Mush (WP).

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Shark Dash (Win 8) slips back behind the two big hitters, Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Win 8) and Microsoft Mahjong (Win 8). Although it doesn't make it onto the WP table, Hungry Shark Evolution does pop up here in eighth with over ten completions.

Achievements Won
78,522 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,288,239 achievements online between them (63,204 different achievements).

Although it was started so much, Pinball FX2 only manages three spots on the table in first, sixth and seventh, with that number one spot actually a Challenge (yes, the Statisticles still haven't fixed that yet). What that does show us though is how the game is made up of the usual tough selection of achievements, with the majority of players not getting any at all. Crimson Dragon takes most of the rest of the spots, with Peggle 2 claiming one in eighth,

As a popular freebie, Dishonored easily gets the clean sweep, although the drop off in numbers from first to second place is notable.

Motocross Madness again claims the clean sweep. Now its freeness is over, hopefully next week will see other titles begin to make a dent.

The three new releases share the table, with Hungry Shark taking three spots, including the top two, Tentacles taking four and AC: Pirates taking three.

Those top two WP achievements for Hungry Shark also turn up on W8, but with a bunch of Microsoft Jigsaw (Win 8) stuck between them.

Dishonored allows Action-Adventure to claim the lead over Shooter this week, pushing the genre up over 10 million. Meanwhile, the two related EA Access titles help give Sports a boost from sixth to fifth with almost 2.7 million and Vehicular Combat dips below 1 million as the Strike Suit Zero numbers diminish. Finally, Pinball FX2 puts Card & Board onto the table in ninth with over 940,000.

That's all for this week. Next week we'll see the effect the hotly anticipated release of Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition has on both the 360 and the One. Exciting times. I know the Statisticles are excited, although they aren't very good at the game. None of them live very long. Their game characters I mean. Although, neither do the Statisticles, I suppose.
