With the success that Mass Effect 3
had with its multiplayer component, it was just a matter of time for developer BioWare
and publisher EA Games
to announce a multiplayer equivalent for their upcoming title, Dragon Age: Inquisition
. Today, BioWare has released details for what you can expect for the upcoming multiplayer experience.
The multiplayer in Dragon Age: Inquisition
will allow up to four players to play cooperatively through quests that are separate from the single-player storyline. It will feature in-game purchases, but BioWare assures the fans that there will not be a "pay wall". Currency purchased with real money will be called platinum, while the money you find while slaying the hordes of enemies will be gold - which is what is used to buy everything in the game.
There will not be any achievements tied to the multiplayer aspect of the game, but there will be challenges that you can strive to unlock. Completing certain challenges may even unlock in-game content. Every week, BioWare will launch a new challenge for you to complete. If you succeed, you will be rewarded for your efforts.
You will be able to craft armor, some which will unlock new classes, from the loot you obtain through your multiplayer adventures. Throughout the missions, you will find gold and items (but not potions). Then at the end of the mission you will be able to spend your hard earned gold coins to buy chests, which could contain weapons, weapon mods, potions, runes, armor, etc. There will also be an app that will release alongside the game that will help players get stuff organized in a more timely fashion and get them back into action with as little hassle as possible.
There will be twelve characters to select from at the launch (four for each class), with more on the way after the game launches. You won't be able to trade item and your characters do not transfer between single-player and multiplayer. The level cap is twenty, once you hit level twenty you will be able to promote your character which will give you an extra attribute point for your multiplayer characters and gives you more Prestige point on the leaderboards.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
will release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on November 18th in North America and November 21st in Europe.
