UPDATE: It looks like Joystiq was right on the money, I hope they give their source delicious amounts of cookies and milk.
Major Nelson just updated his own blog with pictures and videos of the new controller:
With the disc raised up:
Give the D-Pad a twist and you get this:
From Major's blog:
In addition to the new d-pad, the matte silver controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons for added style.
The controller will only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit that will launch on November 9th for US $64.99.
ORIGINAL: This is a rumor based on sources to Joystiq, but Microsoft is planning on releasing a new reworked Xbox 360 Controller. The area being reworked? The directional pad.
That's right. The only real criticism of an other wise perfect controller is about to get a patch in real life. The new Xbox 360 controller with have a "unique" d-pad that will raise up about a quarter of an inch, according to Joystiq, when one rotates the d-pad ninety degrees on this new controller. I suppose this means you will actually be able to feel the directional change rather than the d-pad shifting under your thumb.
This modification is being targeted at the fighting genre players. No word if some super Street Fighter and Tekken players will be beta testing these controllers, but this rumor can bring joy that Microsoft does not totally
ignore its consumer's complaints.
If Joystiq uncovers any more details on this new controller, we will post them here.
