TA Gaming Stats - September 1st to 7th 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period September 1st to September 7th 2014.

Welcome to the stats here on TA for the very first week in September. The Statisticles were very excited this week because of a new release. No, not Minecraft: Xbox One Edition (they're scared of Slendermen). It was Dance Central: Spotlight that had them really excited. Unfortunately for me it meant that Happy song was on repeat for days on end. After that, I was anything but happy. At one point I even tried to join in and show the little guys how it's done by busting some moves, Kinect Star Wars style, but they kept getting flawless, which I just don't understand. They barely even have limbs!

Games Started
50,273 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 87,645 games between them (1,949 different games).

Was there really any doubt of what would be on top this week? Pulling in over 14,600 starters is Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, which is the most week one starters since Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) back in May. With that competition, any other game was bound to struggle (apart from next week, of course), so new free-to-play shooter Warframe does pretty well to grab over 8,500 starters in second. The new releases continue with Dance Central: Spotlight in fifth with almost 2,000 starters and the EA Access trial of NHL 15 (Xbox One) in eighth with over 1,100.

With the "Games with Gold" changeover happening on day one of this period, new freebie Super T.I.M.E. Force (Xbox One) jumps into third place with over 6,600 starters. That number seems somewhat conservative for one of the program's offerings but, with currently around 10,000 total players, it's considerably more than the game had before it went free.

Two racing titles also get a boost up the table, with Forza Motorsport 5 pulling in almost 5,400 starters in fourth thanks to a weekend of free access to the entire game for Gold members and Need for Speed Rivals (Xbox One) landing sixth with just under 2,000 starters after being added to the EA Access vault.

Despite all the new release goodness over on the One, the 360 gets short-changed this week. Apart from recent "Games with Gold" freebie Dishonored keeping the top spot, despite dropping below the 1,000 starters line, and recent releases Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360) and Madden NFL 15 hovering around near the top, the rest of the table belongs to sales.

Titles from this week's sale include Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse in third with almost 300 starters and a couple of Resident Evils in eighth and ninth with around 160 starters each. However, last week's sale also gives us places, with Spec Ops: The Line, LEGO The Lord of the Rings and Crysis 3 sitting side by side in fifth, sixth and seventh places.

As the "Games with Gold" changeover also happens on the 360, Monaco: What's Yours is Mine takes over from Dishonored and pulls in a decent over 4,400 starters. Apart from that and the usual free-to-play and popular titles, sale offering Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD lands in sixth with almost 290 starters.

Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) continues to slide down in numbers if not in places this week, going from over 640 to 370 starters this week. Other recent new release Hungry Shark Evolution (WP) does slip though as it goes from second to third, behind Temple Run 2 (WP). Like Real Racing 2 (WP) last week, this week's sale title Mass Effect: Infiltrator (WP) fails to make the table.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Unlike the fall in numbers on WP, Tentacles: Enter the Mind (Win 8) actually manages to gain starters this week, going from third with 80 to first with under 180. After failing to appear when it was supposed to launch a few weeks ago (presumably due to bugs), Assassin's Creed Pirates (Win 8) now reappears on the table, claiming third with over 80 starters.

Games Completed
8,366 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,911 games between them (1,337 different games).

With so many new starters, Super Time Force had a good chance of showing up somewhere or other. It doesn't just show up though, it lands firmly in first place with 230 completions. The game still has a completion percentage of around 7% so it's not exactly the easiest, but it seems totally doable. Another new entry to the table comes from Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, which smashes into third in its debut week. No doubt some of these 140 completions were made swifter thanks to prepared worlds on the 360 being imported, ready to grab achievements easily. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition also makes its debut as over 130 players wrap it up, putting it into fifth. Also, Metro 2033 Redux proves the most completed of all the different Metro releases, claiming seventh with over 100 completions.

Meanwhile, last week's new release Stick it To The Man stays in second, retaining over 200 completions, whilst Watch_Dogs (Xbox One) slips into fourth after recently leading the table thanks to an achievment balancing patch.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Recent sale title LEGO The Lord of the Rings claims the top spot with almost 70 completions, pushing Borderlands 2 into second. Spec Ops also pops up in fourth with almost 50 completions thanks to its sale boost. Like the One version, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360) sits roughly mid table, claiming sixth with over 40 completions. Interestingly enough, despite having far few players (12,300 compared to under 3,000), the 360 version has a higher completion percentage than the One version. Well, only slightly, at 3% compared to 2%.

The Walking Dead: Season Two continues to pull in hella completions, despite dropping from 5,000 to 1,700, thanks to the release of the final episode and also a timely "Season Pass" sale. As people prepare themselves for the One version, completions of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition also go up, from 70 to nearly 100 in third. Thanks to two Double Fame weekends in a row, Spartacus Legends gets a boost in completions, landing in seventh with over 40.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

Tentacles yet again holds firmly in seventh place, whilst Hungry Shark chomps its way up from tenth to eighth, although it does so by only increasing by one completion from 14 to 15.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

W8 completions give us a very similar table to last week, with Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) again sitting in third behind the two usual suspects.

Minecraft sweeps the table with ease. Here we get a mix of achievements for performing basic actions and construction.

Dishonored again manages the clean sweep but the numbers are really dropping off. Enjoy it while it lasts, Corvo.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Despite smashing the started table, Monaco only manges two spots at the top of the table. The rest is taken up by Walking Dead: S2's finale.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

The same achievements for Tentacles sweep the table as last week, just in a very slightly different order.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

With more new starters, Tentacles jumps up and claims four spots, including the top two. AC Pirates also manages to grab a single spot in seventh.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Last week, people deduced that Simulation would see a big hike in numbers here, and they weren't wrong. It leaps from off the bottom of the table straight into third place with 8 million. It's not quite enough to topple the big two though. Action also gets a boost from 3.4 to 5.8 million thanks to Super Time Force. Finally, Dance Central Spotlight gives Music & Rhythm a ninth place spot but it doesn't break 1 million.

That's all this week. I don't think there's going to be anything particularly interesting in next week's stats. Or is there? Hmmm, I could be wrong...
