TA Gaming Stats - September 22nd to 28th 2014

This report is for the period September 22nd to September 28th 2014.

Last week I explained how my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, were in a bit of a slump after seeing the Destiny numbers take such a massive nose dive. Well this week they're picking themselves up a bit as there are signs that the massive October release schedule are beginning to kick off. Literally. This week, it's a football game.

Games Started
32,820 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 45,226 games between them (1,852 different games).

This week's new release, FIFA 15 (Xbox One), drops a hot 6,000 starters onto the table in first place, up from the 2,700 last week who started it early through EA Access. The other new releases for the week, Defense Grid 2 and https://www.trueachievements.com/Disney-Infinity-Marvel....htm, don't exactly set the numbers on fire, with both settling for around 550 starters and mid-table positions. Having said that, new releases Killer Instinct 2 Classic, CastleStorm – Definitive Edition and KickBeat – Special Edition fail to make the table at all.

The Destiny (Xbox One) numbers continue to drop. In week one it managed the lofty heights of nearly 37,500, then dropped considerably to under 3,700 in week two. This week, week three, it stumbles down to less than half of that with under 1,800 starters. That's still enough to secure a solid second place. But as the weeks go on and more releases come out, will it manage to cling onto the table for long?

In tenth, Nutjitsu sneaks back onto the table with just under 380 starters after having been released in a bunch more countries.

Top Xbox One Games Started

The top two games on the 360 match the One (perhaps unsurprisingly), with FIFA 15 landing in first with almost 2,000 starters. The gap between both Destiny numbers continues to close as the 360 version takes almost 1,200 starters, only 600 fewer than the One. That's notable, considering the gap in week one was around 28,500. Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes - 2.0 Edition doesn't manage the mid-table place of its One version, instead taking eighth with 140 starters.

Out of the range of titles on sale this week, The Orange Box proves most popular. The excellent game bundle takes fourth place with over 310 starters, behind "Games with Gold" freebie Halo: Reach.

The new release side of XBLA has been barren for a long time so it's great to see Slender: The Arrival buck the trend and take first place with 600 starters this week. There's life in the Arcade yet. Having said that, Anna - Extended Edition, which was another horror-themed game released to the platform, isn't anywhere to be seen. However, that may be because recent sales titles and freebies are filling up the spots. Valiant Hearts: The Great War and The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition were on sale the week before and take second and sixth places.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Started

The string of new releases for WP keep coming this week with FIFA 15 Ultimate Team (WP) taking second place with over 320 starters. Despite the popular brand, it doesn't overtake Age of Empires: Castle Siege (WP), which takes first with almost 30, a drop on last week's nearly 1,400. Released a few weeks ago, Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP), manages to go from ninth with 50 starters to third with almost 190. I'm guessing that it was released in more countries. Other recent releases, Tentacles: Enter the Mind (WP) and Assassin's Creed Pirates (WP), also do well, both taking 100 starters in fourth and fifth.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

W8 copies the top of WP with Age of Empires: Castle Siege (Win 8) and FIFA 15 Ultimate Team (Win 8) in the first and second. Interestingly, both get around 200 fewer starters on W8 than on WP. Elsewehere, Assassin's Creed Pirates (Win 8) and Tentacles: Enter the Mind (Win 8) manage to break up the Microsoft domination throughout the rest of the table by taking fourth and sixth.

Games Completed
5,319 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 7,047 games between them (1,228 different games).

Continuing to sit pretty at the top, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition pulls in over 250 completions, whilst recent easy sale title Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Xbox One) climbs from third to second with 130. Next up are two of the lowest ratio games on the console, Nutjitsu and Contrast (Xbox One), both of which appear after getting a boost in numbers, the former after getting a wider release and the latter after being on sale. The "IMC Rising" DLC pulls Titanfall (Xbox One) up into fifth place with 100 completions.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

In first this week is Mass Effect 3 with almost 60 completions, thanks to most of the DLC landing in this week's sale, much to the pleasure of those who had been waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for the discounts to drop. Mass Effect 2 DLC received similar discounts but doesn't appear, presumably because more people had already completed it when it was put on offer in the past. Recent sales also put Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures and Borderlands 2 on the table in second and third.

Although it's not exactly an easy completion (fewer than 9% of players have finished it), new release Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution appears simply because people are playing it right now and not much else is being completed, allowing it to take fourth with 40 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

Like the One version, Valiant Hearts clambers up into second, this time with 90 completions, behind the perennially completed The Walking Dead: Season Two. As closure day draws ever closer, the completions for Doritos Crash Course 2 continue to roll in. Will we see a peak before the fateful October 15th. Despite not appearing, the also due to close Ascend: Hand of Kul continues pulling in completions. This week's "Ascend Watch" see the completions grow by 25 to 858. It's absence is probably thanks to Slenderman, who manages to creep into tenth with 30 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

With its boost of starters, Secrets and Treasure jumps from fourth with 20 completions to first with almost 35, above new release FIFA, which takes 20 in second.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Secrets and Treasure can't quite make the top spot on both platforms, settling for second on W8. FIFA meanwhile takes fourth with similar numbers to the WP version.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
91,261 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 1,116,963 achievements online between them (61,517 different achievements).

Although fewer people started it, more people are actually playing Destiny as it still claims seven places, including the top five. Its clean sweep is broken by three FIFA achievements in sixth, seventh and tenth.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

The balance is a bit different on the 360, with more people comparatively playing FIFA, allowing it to take third and fourth. Interestingly that third achievement doesn't appear though, leaving Destiny to backfill the table.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Although not represented in either started or completed tables, the new World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition Title Update, 1.5, was actually the most played thing from the Arcade. Seven of its nine achievements appear, including the top six. That leaves Slende to settle for seventh and eighth.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Although Age of Empires still dominates in the top four, FIFA manages to claim a chunk of spots in fifth to ninth.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

It's not the same story on W8 as nothing comes close to disrupting Age of Empires' clean sweep.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Although the Destiny boosted Shooter numbers slip from 16 million to under 13 million this week, it still sits comfortably in first. Sports manages to double its figures from 3 million to 6 million thanks to FIFA, but it still loses out to Action-Adventure for second place by 800,000 thanks to the likes of Slender. The rest of the table stays pretty stable, with the biggest change being Strategy popping up in tenth thanks to the Defence Grid boost.

Join us next week when more big new releases like Forza Horizon 2, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Xbox One) claim their positions, amongst others. The release schedule is seriously gearing up and the Statisticles are loving it.
