Konami have announced that Silent Hill 8
(working title only) will be making an appearance on the Xbox 360 next year. The title is said to be sticking to the 'roots' of the game, and will present a third person survival horror experience with an 'all new thought provoking storyline'.
Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital Entertainment had this to say about the forthcoming title guaranteed to turn your pants brown:
In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we’re working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve. This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.
Konami have outlined the events which lead to the events of Silent Hill 8
unfurling to whet our appetities. It all starts with a prison transport vehicle in which we find Murphy Pendleton, our protagonist. The vehicle encounters some undisclosed troubles resulting in it crashing from the road leaving Pendleton stranded within the world of Silent Hill. Here you will encounter 'mind bending' puzzles and 'horrific creatures' which you must fend off using everything from bottles to chairs to aid your survival.
On top of the traditional survival and escape elements of the game, players will be presented with possible side quests which may 'change depending on their play style, revealing unknown evils within the town'.
In short, Konami say this will be a 'classic' Silent Hill and will appeal to anyone with a penchant for 'a deep, psychological horror experience'.
