There's been a buzz surrounding the secret project that Suda 51 (No More Heroes, Killer7) and Shinji Mikami (the brain behind Resident Evil 4, Vietiful Joe, Devil May Cry, God Hand and loads more) have been working on, and today during EA's press conference at TGS the two men have finally revealed what it is.

Entitled Shadows of the Damned, they described the game as a "psychological action thriller," with a "punk rock edge and Suda51's trademark style." The game combines visceral action with dark, grotesque horror as lead character Garcia Hotspur fights his way through a twisted vision of hell.

When evil demonic creatures kidnap Garcia’s girlfriend, it’s up to him to travel to the City of the Damned to get her back. Aided by a former demon with the ability to transform into an array of vicious weapons, Garcia will once again take on the mantel of “demon hunter” and rip apart the horrifying forces of the underworld to protect what he loves most.

Players must harness the power of the light to fight the army of the dark in unique light versus darkness gameplay that will forever change the way gamers perceive puzzles, combat, and terror.

Shadows of the Damned will take gamers on an in-your-face thrill ride through demon-torn towns, shadow infested forests, grimy sewers and more. Featuring the most twisted boss battles ever seen, warped visuals and intense visceral combat, Shadows of the Damned will challenge gamers to break through the ultimate head-trip to help Garcia rescue his tortured girlfriend from the clutches of a mysterious enemy.
Suda and Mikami also brought Akira Yamaoka on stage, announcing that the man behind all of Silent Hill's perfectly eerie and atmospheric music would be handling the soundtrack for this new game.

Grasshopper Manufacture have also released an announcement trailer for the game, showing off it's fairly unique art style and awesome-looking enemies in action:

Shadows of the Damned is scheduled for release some time in 2011.
