TA Gaming Stats - November 17th to 23rd 2014

By Chewie, 4 years ago
This report is for the period November 17th to November 23rd 2014.

Oh geez. Here we are, yet another late Stats article. It's not my fault, guvnor. Honest. Last time, it was because someone drove into the back of me. This time it's because my Ewok helpers, the Statisticles, thought it would be a good idea to tinker with my computer to improve its Stats producing capabilities. Trouble is, shoving twigs and dirt into the logic board is only going to have one outcome: computer goes bye bye. Then Statisticles go bye bye. Out of the tree-house. Head first.

Games Started
69,162 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 106,863 games between them (1,912 different games).

As could be expected, Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One) claims the top spot on its release with over 18,000 starters. That's pretty good, considering Sunset Overdrive didn't crack 15,000. It doesn't quite meet Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One)'s 24,000 or Halo: The Master Chief Collection's 37,000 though.

Speaking of Sunset Overdrive, it gets booted up the table from fifth to second with over 10,500 starters thanks to a free 24 hour trial. That puts it above new release Dragon Age: Inquisition (Xbox One), which may seem to take low numbers at 8,800, but bear in mind that some regions and EA Access members actually got their hands on the game earlier so 4,000 extra starters are sitting in last week's stats.

Other new releases for the week come from Far Cry 4 (Xbox One) with nearly 8,800 starters in fourth, WWE 2K15 (Xbox One) in seventh with 2,300, https://www.trueachievements.com/LIMBO-Xbox-One/achieve....htm with 2,000 in eighth and Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) with 1,100 in tenth. Interestingly, LIMBO was only given to a random selection of Xbox One owners as part of the gifts going out to celebrate the console's first birthday. I'm really annoyed because I didn't get it. I mean, sure, I don't have a One. But still, don't they know who I am?!

Those aren't even the only new releases, as Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show (Xbox One), Thomas Was Alone, RUGBY 15 (Xbox One) and Pier Solar and the Great Architects fail to pull in enough starters to make the table. On another week, some of them probably would have, but there's just too much competition this week.

With all those new releases, the other recent biggies struggle to make an impact. Halo tumbles down to fifth, just above Assassin's Creed Unity, whilst Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One) clings to ninth with 1,500 starters.

Top Xbox One Games Started

"Games with Gold" freebie Red Faction: Guerrilla climbs to the top of the table with over 4,100 starters. That puts it well in advance of new releases Dragon Age: Inquisition and Far Cry 4, which circle the 1,000 mark. Although not a new release, the newly free-to-play Defiance jumps up into sixth with 600 starters. Also appearing is the delayed 360 release of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, which lands in at seventh with 370 starters. Finally, Escape Dead Island manages to slip onto the table in tenth with Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show, RUGBY 15 and Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom getting left in the dust.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Started

After the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two went free the previous week, boosting the game's starters to over 800, The Wolf Among Us followed suit, although it doesn't quite reach those lofty heights with around 630 starters. With nothing in the way of new releases or sales, the rest of the table is looking pretty barren for XBLA, with low numbers that are beginning to rival those of the likes of WP and W8.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Started

Following its release the previous week, Bad Piggies (WP) keeps the top spot, thanks in part to being absolutely free. It does drop from 960 to under 400 starters, though. Also made free, Angry Birds Seasons (WP) keeps second place too with 280. Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP) gets a boost up from fifth with under 70 to third with 130, though I'm not entirely sure why. Any ideas?

This week's sale title, Mirror's Edge (WP), takes eighth with almost 50 starters, but the previous week's discounted offering does even better as Bejeweled Live (WP) takes fifth with over 70.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Not much to see here as Microsoft titles continue to dominate as usual.

Top Windows 8 Games Started

Games Completed
6,796 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,518 games between them (1,345 different games).

Although it was way down at the bottom of the started table, the ease of completion puts Never Alone at the top here with over 470 completions. Currently nearly 52% of players have finished the game. Similarly new easy completions appear in the forms of MONOPOLY Plus and Thomas Was Alone in fourth and sixth, despite neither appearing on the started table. Assassin's Creed Unity appears just a week after release, in seventh with nearly 150 completions.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas continues to rule the roost, despite dropping from 250 to under 190 completions this week. Like Unity, Assassin's Creed Rogue appears a week after release, although it takes a much higher second place position. It also currently has a much higher completion percentage with over 7% to Unity's under 2%, making it the easier game to finish.

With their sequels/ports making it onto the One, Far Cry 3 and Grand Theft Auto V both appear as people work to finish them off before moving onto the next one.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

As can be expected, a lot of starters for Telltale equals a lot of completions too. The top three spots are taken by the three titles

On the final two days of the game being active, 22 players managed to squeeze out the completion for Ascend: Hand of Kul, putting it in eighth. From then on, completions would be no more. So long, Ascend.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

With all the starters from their freeness, Bad Piggies and Angry Birds Seasons climb into third and fourth place.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Although I'm not entirely certain why the WP started numbers saw a jump, the recent Title Update for Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) gives the game a big boost on the W8 completed table with 140 completions.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
119,949 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 3,038,324 achievements online between them (72,013 different achievements).

As it's quite stingy with achievements early on in the game, GTA V doesn't manage a clean sweep, though it does take six spots on the table, including the top two. That leaves Sunset Overdrive, Dragon Age and Far Cry to pick up the remaining spots with their easiest achievements. The likes of Halo and Assassin's Creed don't get a look-in at all.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Red Faction claims the top half of the table, whilst Dragon Age mostly fills up the bottom half, though Far Cry does manage to slip in there.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Although TWD: S2 still mostly dominates the table, the free first episode of TWAU does give it two places, including the top spot.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

Those naughty piggies claim seven spots, leaving Angry Birds and Secrets & Treasure to sneak in the odd entry.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

The single "Title Update" achievement for Secrets & Treasure claims the top spot, leaving Age of Empires and some Microsoft stuff to fight over the rest of the table.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

After the massive Halo shaped kick up to over 41 million that Shooter got last week, it settles down now to just under 24 million. The wide selection of big Action-Adventure titles this week allow its number grow from under 16 million to almost 24 million, but not quite enough to topple Shooter. Dragon Age also gives Role-Playing a boost from 2.8 to 5 million, but it's not enough to shift it from third. LIMBO and Never Alone also help to push Platformer from around 1.5 to 2.9 million into fourth.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Shooter23,939,033
  • Action-Adventure23,883,569
  • Role-Playing5,041,647
  • Platformer2,864,164

  • Adventure1,223,911
  • Racing1,011,152
  • Card & Board868,595
  • Simulation658,069

That's all for now. Next week hopefully my computer will have been de-leaved and I'll be able to bring you the stats that will see if Tales from the Borderlands and Geometry Wars³: Dimensions can make an impact on the tables.
