TA Gaming Stats - December 1st to 7th 2014

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period December 1st to December 7th 2014.

Welcome to the Stats for the first week of December here on TA. As Winter is drawing in, my Ewok helpers the Statisticles and I are growing a few extra layers of fur to keep the chills away. Well, I'm not actually bothering to grow it. I'm just tethering a few of the Statisticles to me like a living slanket. Well, mostly living.

Games Started
63,375 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 102,417 games between them (1,920 different games).

This week saw the beginning of the month and the Games with Gold changeover. Worms Battlegrounds proves a very popular freebie, shooting up to the top of the table with almost 21,000 starters. New releases follow Worms with Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series proving more popular than Tales from the Borderlands did the previous week. The former gets 5,200 starters in second whereas the latter got 3,500 starters in its release week. New online racing title The Crew takes third with 2,500 starters, which puts it close to recent big releases like Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One) and Far Cry 4 (Xbox One). Other new release, Threes!, fails to make the table, leaving it the other recent releases to pick off the spots.

Although it lost its freeness this week, Games with Gold title Red Faction: Guerrilla was still the most started retail game of the week with over 670 starters, followed by the recently made free-to-play Defiance. Interestingly no new releases make the table, including The Crew (Xbox 360), Motorcycle Club, Syberia and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (Xbox 360). Instead, big recent releases fill up most of the rest of the table, as well as Dead Island Riptide (Xbox 360) and Saints Row IV, which appear thanks to the week's sales.

Despite some controversy about its subsequent episodes not receiving discounts, the new Games with Gold title, The Raven "Episode 1", takes first with 1,600 starters. The rest of the top half of the table is a Telltale fest, with Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series (Xbox 360) taking second with 630 starters, Tales from the Borderlands (Xbox 360) following in third with 360, and The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead: Season Two grabbing fourth and fifth, both with around the 220-240 mark. Sales give the rest of the table their places, with a discounted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Special Editions, Splosion Man, Terraria, DuckTales Remastered (Arcade) and State of Decay getting between 100 and 215 starters.

It's been a while but WP finally got a new release this week with Tiny Troopers (WP). Popular (and free), the game claims over 1,500 starters, 200 more than the rest of the table combined. And that's even with much bigger numbers than usual throughout the rest of the table thanks to all the Angry Birds titles being made free. Also, sale title Plants vs. Zombies (WP) shows up in eighth with over 100 starters.

W8 doesn't give us the same new release joy, as the Microsoft titles continue to mostly dominate.

Games Completed
7,486 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 10,299 games between them (1,317 different games).

Due to both Game of Thrones and Tales of the Borderlands having their full achievement lists scanned into the site, despite only the first episodes so far being released, technically no one has yet completed them (we use "Include All DLC" for these stats) so they don't appear here. Instead, their Telltale brethren The Walking Dead (Xbox One) and The Walking Dead: Season Two (Xbox One) lead with over 500 completions each. Following them is the recent easy releases Far Cry 4 (Xbox One), MONOPOLY Plus and Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna). A recent sale helps Valiant Hearts: The Great War (Xbox One) take sixth and other recent easy titles, Thomas Was Alone and MONOPOLY Deal, sit at the bottom.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

Assassin's Creed Rogue and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sit side by side at the top with only one completion separating them. Like on the One, Far Cry 4 takes third. A recent sale helps give Crysis, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Hitman: Absolution a boost, whilst the new "Final Stand" DLC puts Battlefield 4 in fifth with 40 completions.

We're in a bit of a weird state here as, like on the One all the Game of Thrones episodes have scanned into the site making it uncompletable until all episodes are out. However, that's not the case with Tales from the Borderlands. As only the first episode is on-site and, like all Telltale titles, it's an easy completion, it easily takes the top spot with over 330 completions. With recent sales on very easy games, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, Valiant Hearts: The Great War and Contrast all take spots on the table.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

A lot less of a grind than many WP games, especially the majority of free-to-play titles, Tiny Troopers is actually pretty completable, as evidenced by its first place position. Recent sale title Shark Dash (WP) takes second and the esiest of the Angry Birds freebies, Angry Birds Seasons (WP), takes third.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

A bug fixing update seems to have meant a big boost in completions for Microsoft Minesweeper (Win 8), landing it at the top of the table with over 130 completions.

Achievements Won
119,972 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 2,468,310 achievements online between them (66,614 different achievements).

Worms claim the top three spots and also sneak into seventh, leaving Game of Thrones to fill in the blanks.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

Red Faction still leads and also claims sixth. Despite not giving the game many completions, two achievements from the new "Title Update" for Titanfall take third and fifth. That leaves Defiance and AC Rogue to take the remaining spots.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Nine of the twelve achievements for The Raven fill the table with a singe Game of Thrones achievement jumping into eighth.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

As the most started and most completed game by a long way, i's a Tiny Troopers clean sweep.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

That now fixed achievement for Minesweeper takes the top spot. Similarly a previously bugged achievement for Project Spark (Win 8) has now been made obtainable in an update, allowing it to take the number two spot.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

With so many big releases from both genres in recent weeks, Shooter and Action-Adventure sit neck and neck at the top of the table. With two Telltale releases on both consoles, Adventure gets a big boost up the table into fourth. The power of Worms rockets Strategy up from off the table into fifth place.

That's all for now. Next week we'll see how Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris fares. Unfortunately, the big releases are mostly now behind us but in the coming weeks it should be all about the sales.
