TA Gaming Stats - January 5th to 11th 2015

By Chewie, 3 years ago
This report is for the period January 5th to January 11th 2015.

Heeeeeere's Chewie!!

That's right, after a few weeks of Life Day related vacation time, I'm back with my Ewok helpers the Statisticles to bring you the latest and greatest stats from the world of TrueAchievements. I've also been hard at work getting the stats together for the whole of 2014, so look out for that one soon. For fun, place your bets in the comments of what you reckon the most started and most complete games were for each platform. The best guesses may even get a prize

Games Started
53,851 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 88,438 games between them (2,140 different games).

The new "Games with Gold" freebie for January, D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, gobbles up over 7,000 starters with its unique brand of weirdness. It's the previous freebie that sits in second place, with Worms Battlegrounds claiming over 1,600 starters. The rest of the table sees the biggest releases of the latter part of 2014 taking between 800 and 1,600 starters. There was a new release this week in the form of Funk of Titans, but it doesn't grab enough starters to make the table.

Top Xbox One Games Started

As with the One, it's "Games with Gold" that claims the top spot on the 360 as MX vs. ATV: Alive grabs 3,000 starters. Also like the One, its predecessor takes second place, with SSX and its 500 starters. Sale title Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes third, whilst also discounted Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360) and Grand Theft Auto IV sit side by side in seventh and eighth with just one starter separating them. The rest of the table sees other fairly recent big releases, as well as the recently made free-to-play Defiance.

Telltale almost exclusively dominates the top half of the table with five of their adventure titles in the top six with between 120 and 170 starters. Their domination is in part thanks to a set of related sales over the festive season that many took advantage. The interloper sitting amongst them is Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition in second.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Started

We were spoiled by new releases on WP throughout the break and Despicable Me: Minion Rush (WP), Angry Birds Stella (WP) and Asphalt 8: Airborne (WP) all lead the table with between 230 and 340 starters. With news of its imminent delisting hitting the site, Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP) takes fourth with over 210 starters as people grab it before it vanishes. Other recent releases fill up the rest of the table, making this one of the most unique WP charts that we've seen in ages after months (nay, years) of the same old stuff.

Top Windows Phone Games Started

With its W8 version releasing this week, Despicable Me: Minion Rush (Win 8) grabs the top spot with 420 starters. Also releasing worldwide after a six month long soft release, Microsoft Jackpot (Win 8) grabs second with over 310 starters. In third and fourth are two recent titles that also appear on WP, Asphalt 8: Airborne (Win 8) and Asphalt Overdrive (Win 8), with also to-be-delisted Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) following up in fifth.

Games Completed
9,552 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 17,251 games between them (1,656 different games).

With the Telltale holiday sales combined with how easy they are to complete, they were bound to show up here. The Walking Dead: Season Two and The Walking Dead lead with between 550 and 580 completions, whilst The Wolf Among Us settles for fourth and under 350. That leaves Far Cry 4 to claim third with almost 400 completions.

All the new starters put D4 in sixth with almost 150 completions and, although it didn't make the started table, the ease of completion for Funk of Titans (currently 50% of players have finished it) puts it in tenth.

Well that's a bit odd. The Statisticles were supposed to have fixed this, but it looks like offline completions from new signups are still affecting the stats, which explains all the old games popping up. *grumble grumble*. I'll try and fix it, but it may not be too easy as excluding them could also exclude legitimate stuff. Something actually legitimate is that, as with the One, the 360 freebie appears, with MX vs ATV in third with almost 150 starters.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

Completed is almost a mirror of Started on Arcade as all the Telltale titles (and Minecraft) are easy completions. The bottom of the table mostly also sees easy games, but Warface also appears in seventh with 55 completions as people rush to finish it before the February 1st server closure.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

The completions for Secrets & Treasure pile in as people rush to finish it before it vanishes, it grabs 80 completions, over Tiny Troopers and Asphalt Overdrive

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

It's a similar story on W8 as Secrets & Treasure leads while Asphalt Overdrive follows. This time, though, Microsoft titles separate the two in second and third.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
123,782 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 2,725,204 achievements online between them (69,428 different achievements).

D4 dominates most of the table, although Master Chief manages to wrestle three spots with a trio of achievements, including two from the recent Spartan Ops-carrying "Title Update 2".

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

MX vs ATV gets an uninterrupted clean sweep on the 360.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Although Telltale titles were popular across the tables, it's TWD: S2 that was easily the most played. Here it gets a clean sweep with achievements from Episodes 4 & 5.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

WP gives us a lot more variety with five games claiming spots. Despicable Me: Minion Rush does the best though, with four spots, including the top three.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

On W8 it's just three titles that fill the table, but again it's Despicable Me: Minion Rush with the best showing in the top two, although Asphalt 8 claims more places.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

To kick off this year in stats, Shooter leads comfortably over Action-Adventure. With D4's influence, Adventure steps up into third but it doesn't come close to challenging the big two.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Shooter18,620,154
  • Action-Adventure14,845,549
  • Adventure5,140,030

That's all for this week. The release season will start gearing up again soon but next week will probably be quite quiet. Around the corner will be stuff like Dying Light and Evolve though, so stay tuned in the coming weeks. Oh, and keep an eye out for the 2014 stats and make your predictions in the comments!
