TA Gaming Stats - January 12th to 18th 2015

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period January 12th to January 18th 2015.

Hello there everybody. Welcome to this week's double stats dip. What with the epic 2014 stats taking up all our time last week, the Statisticles and I didn't have the energy to handle the regular weekly round-up then too. Here we are though. This is the article that would've come out last weekend, accompanied by this weekend's entry. Because we're double-dipping, it's going to be a bit of a whistle-stop tour. So strap in and prepare for a numbersplosion to the face.

Games Started
48,738 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 77,609 games between them (2,178 different games).

January's "Games with Gold" freebie D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die continues to ride high, despite dropping from 7,000 to 3,800 starters. That's still around 2,500 more starters than the next title on the table, Assassin's Creed Unity. The week's sales put Terraria onto the table in fourth. With no new releases this week, the rest of the table is filled by the big releases of the past few months.

This week saw the changeover of "Games with Gold" titles on the 360. The freebie for the beginning of the month, MX vs. ATV: Alive, retains the top spot with approaching 1,700 starters. Its successor takes second and third place thanks to being split across two regional variations. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings leads with over 800 starters, whilst The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (EU) grabs 660. December's freebie, SSX, sits in fourth with 400 starters.

The week's sale gives Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (Xbox 360) a boost up from ninth to fifth with over 300 starters. New release MONOPOLY Plus (Xbox 360) takes eighth with nearly 250 starters but its counterpart, MONOPOLY Deal (Xbox 360), doesn't make the table.

Telltale still control a lot of the table, with games in first, sixth, eighth, ninth and tenth, the most popular of which remains The Walking Dead: Season Two (Xbox 360). I'll put Hexic HD's appearance in third down to people getting 360s over Xmas or in the January sales and starting it from getting it free on the console.

Recent release Despicable Me: Minion Rush (WP) continues to lead the table, despite dropping from 340 to 270 starters. Previous week's second and third place recent releases, Angry Birds Stella (WP) and Asphalt 8: Airborne (WP), slide down to fourth and fifth next to other recent release, Asphalt Overdrive (WP). This allows Tiny Troopers (WP) and Microsoft Bingo (WP) to secure second and third places, with both getting over 200 starters. With its delisting hitting, Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP), disappears off the table. After an update led to achievements unlocking early for players, achievement hunters flocked to UNO & Friends (WP), putting it seventh with over 110 starters.

Unlike on WP, Despicable Me: Minion Rush (Win 8) loses its top spot and has to settle for third behind Microsoft Jackpot (Win 8) and Asphalt 8: Airborne (Win 8). UNO & Friends (Win 8) gets a similar boost on W8 as on the WP thanks to the update and platform-synching achievements.

Games Completed
10,158 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 18,275 games between them (1,701 different games).

The free "Dead Kings" DLC for AC Unity bumps it to the top of the Completed table with 650 completions. New "Arrow Pack" DLC also puts LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in sixth with 280 completions.

Despite not appearing on the Started table, Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) got a boost in starters this week thanks to a sale and, because it's very easy (58% of players have finished it), it does get enough completions to put it in fifth here.

After a few weeks of these tables looking more than a little funky, the Statisticles finally fixed the problem using some very clever logic. I didn't understand it myself but it had something to do with filtering out players who hadn't actually played the game during the period in question and then multiplying that by the square root of a pineapple. Or something.

Both new MONOPOLY titles are super easy completions. so both appear here in their release week straight into first and third, sandwiching MX vs. ATV: Alive in second. The same DLC appears on the 360 for LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Xbox 360), putting it in the same position on the table, albeit with much lower numbers.

Telltale rules and everyone else drools on the Arcade table. Warface pulls in the exact same amount of completions as the previous week as people try and finish it before the server closure that literally just happened. Elsewhere we get other easy titles, particularly ones that have seen recent sales or were "Games with Gold" freebies, such as The Raven.

There are all those completions that UNO & Friends was dishing out willy-nilly with the patch, smashing the game up into first with a whopping 470 completions, more than any game on the 360 and all but one on the One.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Ditto on W8, just with 200 fewer completions.

Achievements Won
123,293 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 2,270,151 achievements online between them (70,046 different achievements).

Four "Dead Kings" achievements show up, including on the top spot, leaving D4 to fill up the rest of the table with the exception of that one date-specific Halo MCC achievement. I have a feeling that is going to be making a monthly appearance for a while.

MX vs ATV Alive again claims the clean sweep with The Witcher not getting a look-in. That's probably because that game's numbers are divided in two thanks to the different regional versions though. Combined, they probably would have had an impact.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

A new "Title Update" gives World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition the top half of the table, though a few tough level-specific achievements kept it from the Completed table.

Those UNO update freebies take four places on the table, including the top three, whilst the other spots are filled with a handful of the most popular titles and their easiest achievements.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

Three of the UNO achievements land here with three other titles claiming the rest.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Shooter steps down from first into second this week, leaving Action-Adventure to take the lead with a push from the AC Unity DLC. The Witcher pushes Role-Playing up over Adventure into third whilst the UNO unlocks give Card & Board a boost from tenth to ninth.
