TA Gaming Stats - Jan 26th to Feb 1st 2015

By Chewie, 2 years ago
This report is for the period January 26th to February 1st 2015.

Welcome to the stats from here on TA from the end of January into the very beginning of February. Something I forgot to mention last week was how your guesses for the top games of 2014 compared to the actual tables. Quite a few correctly presumed that Titanfall would be the most started game, including BrokenKnght, S P 4 C E Y, theshadow and NightHawk673. However, no one figured out that, thanks to "Games with Gold", Dark Souls and Deadlight would be the most started on the 360. Well done theshadow for also figuring out that Max: The Curse of Brotherhood would be the most completed One game. You guys did much better than the Statisticles who seemed to think that Boom Ball for Kinect would be the most popular game. I honestly don't know why I keep them around any more.

Games Started
62,441 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 97,402 games between them (2,054 different games).

Three new releases claim the top of the table this week. New open-world free-running zombie title Dying Light and its Dead Island (Xbox 360) meets Mirror's Edge mash-up does the best with over 14,000 starters. New "Games with Gold" freebie #IDARB takes second with 9,100 starters, whilst time-travelling episodic adventure Life Is Strange grabs third with nearly 2,100. Another new release that unfortunately doesn't make the table is Unmechanical: Extended Edition.

Titanfall must have heard me talking about it being the most started game of 2014 because it jumps up onto the table into fourth with 2,000 starters. Ok, maybe it wasn't anything to do with me, but rather the week's sale. In fact, most of the rest of the table is made up of sale titles getting a boost in numbers, including Dragon Age: Inquisition, Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition, Battlefield 4 and Peggle 2 with between 1,200 and 1,500 starters.

The "Games with Gold" freebie The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings again takes the top two spots with its regional variation in the final week of its freeness. Last week the combined total starters of both games was 2,000, this week it's slipped to just over 1,000. Like on the One, sales give Titanfall (Xbox 360) a boost into fifth. Meanwhile, last week's new releases, Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell (Xbox 360) and Resident Evil (Xbox 360), slip from fourth and fifth to sixth and ninth, with Resident Evil dropping below SR: Gat Out of Hell.

New "Games with Gold" title Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons smashes to the top of the table with almost 1,000 starters, leaving new release Life Is Strange (Xbox 360) to settle with second with only 200, less than a tenth of its One version. The sale puts Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD into eighth with 70 starters.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Started

After a few weeks leading the table, this week sees Despicable Me: Minion Rush (WP) tying with Tiny Troopers (WP) as its starters drop from 200 to 150. The rest of the table continues to show the platforms recent releases, including Asphalt 8: Airborne (WP) and Angry Birds Stella (WP).

Top Windows Phone Games Started

Despicable Me: Minion Rush (Win 8) slips on W8 too, this time dropping from third to fourth, whilst Asphalt 8: Airborne (Win 8) retains second place behind Microsoft Jackpot (Win 8), both retaining around 150 and 200 starters each.

Games Completed
10,261 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 17,119 games between them (1,549 different games).

As well as being a popular starter thanks to freeness, #IDARB turns out to be a pretty easy completion too. Currently 20% of players have finished it and its almost 1,500 completions this week easily sit it at the top of the table. Sale title Another World is also a popular and easy one this week. This time it's a massive 65% of players who have finished it and it takes second with almost 630 completions. Recent title Riptide GP2 also grabs fifth with 230 completions whilst new DLC gives Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare an eighth place spot. The same can't be said for Trials Fusion, whose new DLC doesn't help it up onto the table.

Top Xbox One Games Completed

The new DLC also helps Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox 360) up the table, this time all the way to second place. It sits behind the easy recent release, MONOPOLY Plus (Xbox 360), which slips sightly from over 160 to under 120 completions. Only a week after releasing, SR: Gat Out of Hell takes fourth place with 50 completions.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Games Completed

Being very easy to complete puts Brothers squarely at the top of the table with over 310 completions. In the final push to finish it before the servers closed this week, Warface clambers up from fourth to third and 70 to 90 completions. Say goodbye because it will never appear again. Life is Strange takes fourth with almost 90 completions. It didn't appear on the One table simply because all the episodes have scanned in there whilst only the first has scanned in here, meaning it's technically uncompletable there for now (these stats go by Include DLC). Also appearing here but not on the One table is Trials Fusion (Xbox 360), which does manage a place thanks to its new DLC, albeit last place.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Games Completed

The Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (WP) completions continue to pile in as people complete it before its promised but seemingly not yet delivered server closure. It takes the top spot with over 30 completions.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Not much changes here as UNO & Friends (Win 8) and Secrets and Treasure: The Lost Cities (Win 8) continue to sit behind the two Microsoft heavyweights.

Top Windows 8 Games Completed

Achievements Won
123,453 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 2,228,689 achievements online between them (66,400 different achievements).

Dying Light almost manages the clean sweep but loses out thanks to a single DLC achievement for CoD: AW in fourth.

Top Xbox One Achievements Won

On the flip side, it's CoD: AW's DLC's turn to miss out on the clean sweep on 360 thanks to a single Witcher achievement at the bottom.

Top Xbox 360 Retail Achievements Won

Brothers does manage a clean sweep with all ten spots being filled from its twelve easy achievements.

Top Xbox 360 Arcade Achievements Won

WP gives us mostly the same achievements as last week, just in a slightly different order.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

It's the same story on W8, with the table mostly being a shuffle of the previous one.

Top Windows 8 Achievements Won

Both Action-Adventure and Shooter get a bump in numbers this week. Unfortunately, for Shooter, they both grow by 2 million so Shooter doesn't get to close the gap at all on the leader. Action gets a big bump up from seventh to third thanks to #IDARB, whilst Another World helps give Platformer a similar boost up from eighth to fifth.

Total TrueAchievements won by Genre
  • Action-Adventure20,358,279
  • Shooter13,513,769
  • Action7,718,523
  • Role-Playing3,125,035
  • Platformer2,769,707
  • Racing2,491,081
  • Sports2,270,356
  • Adventure2,052,540
  • Card & Board878,921
  • Puzzle825,679

That's all for now. Next week will be a fairly quiet one on the release front so it'll mostly be up to the current list of titles to duke it out.
